Yoga for Runners: Earth Yoga Clothing Giveaway

Maybe it’s in my head, but I feel like I stand out in the yoga classes I’ve been too. I’m the one in the back with the tight hamstrings, trying to look as smooth and limber as the instructor and majority of the other participants.  I can usually pick out the other runners as well.  But as a runner, the benefits of yoga are many! They include:

  • Injury Prevention: increased flexibility and core strength
  • Improved overall balance, strength and range of motion
  • Mental focus and concentration

Now that we have established how beneficial yoga is for runners, what do you wear? Running clothes can work at home, but shorts don’t quite cut it in a yoga studio.

I was given the opportunity to try Earth Yoga Clothing, and it is a fantastic resource for affordable, stylish yoga gear.  Their clothes are eco-friendly and sustainable, made from organic cotton, bamboo and spandex, including earth friendly ink and dyes.  I fell in love with my comfy tee and capris!

After a little yoga practice on the porch with L, I lived in these clothes for the rest of the day! They’re so soft and fit perfectly.  I needed this inspiration to do yoga more frequently.  My tight hamstrings are begging for it!

Earth Yoga would love to one of you two new pieces of organic yoga wear!

  1. I have gone through phases of tons of yoga (at least once a day) to no yoga. I find I feel much better both mentally and physically the more yoga I do. I just recently found a studio in my area that I am looking to check out, so hopefully I can get back into a regular routine again.

  2. I just started taking yoga classes once a week. I’m also going to try doing it with my kids at home sometimes. I’d love to win the clothes!

  3. I use to do yoga at my Y….just fell out of love with the class. I do some moves at home now (when I am not being malled by the dachshund while doing so) ha! 😉

    Nice clothing.

  4. I have taken a yoga class here and there but this month was different. I signed up for a 30 day challenge at my local Moksha studio. Day was day #22 and I feel great! It has really improved my running!

  5. I practice yoga about 4 times weekly (lately :)) Definitely helps with running! I tweeted about the giveaway and I follow both you and Earth Yoga on twitter, as well as your instagram and facebook page :)

The clothes look great on you Laura!

I have mistakenly worn running shorts to yoga before – bad idea haha

  6. That outfit is cute! I am determined to get back to doing yoga–it’s been a while! Maybe a new outfit will be just the push I need to get back on my mat. (Love the photos of you and L doing yoga together! Whenever I do it I usually have someone join me too, whether a kid, a dog or a cat! :))

  7. I only do yoga when there is a free session offered by Lululemon. I do love the pigeon and downward dog poses for stretching. BTW – L actually has demonstrated very good technique in doing her downward dog. Very nicely done!

  8. As a runner, I’ve read so many articles on how yoga can benefit me. Unfortunately, I don’t dedicate enough time to it. I probably do it once a week, if that. But I really want to be better at doing it! Maybe some cute yoga clothes would motivate me 😉

  9. I don’t generally do yoga, but I know I need to. Luckily most of my non-running workouts include some stretching that are similar to yoga poses.
Your pictures in this post have inspired me to do a little yoga tonight with my little one too!

  10. Yoga has SO many benefits…physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I try to do two classes a week and then stretching/poses while M eats her breakfast! (She thinks its pretty funny and joins in sometimes like L!)

  11. Following you on Twitter (@krketterman) I just took my second yoga class ever–power flow vinsayna (sp?) “Hot Yoga!” Love, Love, Love. As I runner I didn’t think I would like it but it is AMAZING!! Post long run..ahhhhhhhh!

  12. I hardly we’re practice yoga but not because I don’t see the value in it. I definitely would like to get on a regular schedule though.

  13. Great giveaway! I love yoga. I take a yoga fusion class on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings, then a vinyasa flow right after the Saturday class. I feel amazing afterwards.

  14. super comfy looking! I desperately need to learn to like yoga (I think I’ve told you that a few times LOL). I do some poses, especially when stretching each day, but I know I’d benefit tremendously from consistently going to a class or finding a really great DVD for home use.

  15. I occasionally practice yoga, but know it’s something that I really should do more often! My goal for my marathon is to include more cross training and yoga and see the results!

  16. If I run I do at least ten minutes of yoga, I have a sequence that hits all the good spots… Also attend at least one formal class a week…

  17. I have been practicing yoga for about 7 years, but my practice has dropped to only 2-3 days a week since having kids

  18. Are yoga pants comfortable? Of course they are. Do they make your ass look better? Duh … and women know this. Yes, we’re doing that for ourselves more than for men, but let’s not dumb this down and act like the thought never crosses our mind. It’s part of the reason we like wearing yoga pants, because they make us feel good.

However, are they pants? Nope, still not pants. Of course Lululemon promotes wearing them as part of your everyday wear; they’re trying to sell product. Wearing yoga pants as leggings (socially acceptable) is not the same as wearing them as pants (sorry, not socially acceptable).
    Great post
