Happy St Patrick’s Day!
After racing the past two weeks (first the half marathon and then the 10k), it feels good to feels good to have a “normal” weekend. I’m turning my focus to picking up a little speed for the 5k season here… first one is next Saturday already! I mapped out a tentative plan for myself and will share some of my favorite speed workouts later this week.
The highlight of this week’s training was joining my running group at the track Thursday night. I hope I can start to make these regularly!
Here’s what the week looked like:
Sunday: 9 mile easy run with friends
Monday: Weights- Cathe dvd
Tuesday: 6 mile fartlek run (with some 800s at 6:40 pace) + teach spin (1 hour)
Wednesday: subbed spin class + arms/core
Thursday: 7 run with 10×400 at 1:28-1:30
Friday: Off
Saturday: 10 run (8:45 pace) + teach spin (1 hour)
Yesterday afternoon, we biked over to the local university for a picnic. We were hoping to catch some of the track meet which was supposed to last “all day” according to the website, but everyone was cleared out by the time we got there. We enjoyed the beautiful day and did some “racing” around the grass.
And here’s our menu plan for the week:
Sunday: Friends over for dinner- Fish with Charmoula sauce, baked on top of roasted potatoes, broccoli and peppers, brown rice
Monday: Crock pot Chickpea Curry
Tuesday: Tina’s Portabella Wraps
Wednesday: Need to choose between Lindsay’s Bean Burgers or Lasagna Soup
Thursday: Lentil Sloppy Joes
Friday: Ari’s Crispy Ranch Chicken (kid-friendly) and/or Kierston’s Seaweed Chicken Wrap (adult friendly)
Saturday: Date night for hub’s birthday!
Are there any signs of spring yet where you are?

Some of our tulips have started to bloom so I guess that’s a sign that Spring is on the way!! I’m ready for some warmer weather.

Did those portabella wraps look fantastic?!? I want to try those, too! No great signs of spring yet, but I’m really hoping for something soon. Our spring break starts next week, and it would be nice to have temperatures about 37 degrees.
Have a great day!

Track workouts won’t be starting till April here. I noticed that they’re mostly clear so maybe well get to start earlier. I thought spring was here until it snowed yesterday and its 20 degrees right now. Guess not!

Wow, that looks like a great week!! I’m hoping to make our track workout this week. Colorado has a hard time committing to Spring but we will be blessed with beautiful weather throughout the year until the next snow dump.

Awesome runs! I can’t wait to hear some of your favorite speed work days — I’m slowly adding some into my life!! No sign of spring here — and I’m really really ready for it!! Over the grey skies =p

Great week of workouts Laura! And your menu sounds delicious! Spring is definitely in the air here on the Gulf Coast. The azaleas are already blooming!

Your menu for this week looks great! We had some signs of spring here in St. Louis on Friday, when it hit 75 degrees!! Unfortunately, it dropped back down into the 30′s yesterday, so it was all just a tease
Spring will be here soon enough though.

Your bike ride and picnic sounds like so much fun! We have been enjoying very nice spring-like weather this past week but unfortunately are expecting rain this week. Which most people will say is good because we need it but… I’d much rather have clear blue skies!

Great job on the track work-out! I haven’t done much track work in years.
Tina’s Portabella wraps did look really good!
Friday it was over 80 and gorgeous, today it 30 overcast and chance of snow – At least we had a spring teaser!!

It was strange! Our friend ran by in the morning and saw them, but we got there at 4pm and everything was empty, so apparently it wrapped up early, even though the website said all day and into the evening… we’ll try again!

Great week! I love how comfy the little one is in her carrier. Too cute! I’ve been reading your menus for a while and I see you don’t eat much meat. I was just wondering a little bit more about your diet.
Carli recently posted..Dial Coconut Water Body Wash {#Review & #Giveaway}
Hi Carli! Yes, I don’t eat much meat, but my husband does… so we compromise a bit. I’ve learned over the years that I do best with some animal protein, but not too much. I’ve been learning a lot at Integrative Nutrition about bioindividuality, and how we’re all different. It’s been fascinating! I also wrote a post earlier this week about how to be a vegetarian the “right” way, for those who skip all animal products: http://www.mommyrunfast.com/wheres-the-beef-5-necessary-nutrients-for-a-vegetarian-diet/

Spring is very slow in coming over here on the east coast. Getting tired of the chilly air : ( Look forward to hearing your track workouts – I’m always looking for good ones to use during the summer, when I’m not marathon training!

You are so organized with your menu plan, I love it! I had a skating competition a week ago and have another Friday, unfortunately I’m down with my back today and just hoping I will be able to skate in time to compete! Definitely spring here, crocus and snowdrops blooming in my yard.

Geez Louise, signs of spring, I WISH. We still have snow on the ground and it’s in the 30′s all day. It’s supposed to snow again tomorrow. *sigh*
Your family bike ride looks like so much fun!! I have the Ergo backpack too (I think that’s what your hubby has?). I don’t know why I haven’t thought of trying it on the bike!
I have a question about your 400 repeats…do you jog in between? My half marathon program consists of 400 repeats every other week, and my hubby has me jogging a 400 between each. I’m just curious if you job or walk or lay down (please say you lay down LOL).
jan recently posted..Half Marathon Training
Funny you asked, because I usually do jog between, but this week our coach specifically wanted us to rest between with no jogging. I found it hard to go from zero to 100 like that, but there are pros/cons to both… he was a collegiate athlete and prefers the rest because you’re teaching your body to go fast, the extra mileage doesn’t “help” necessarily and then you’re more fully recovered for the next one… anyway, if you want to rest, go for it.

Laura recently posted..Weekly workout recap + Menu Link Up
Hmm, that’s interesting. Maybe I’ll try stopping between next time! Or, maybe I’ll just walk until my heart rate is normal again.

Yum. Seaweed chicken wrap! Spring is definitely here! We have tulips and daffodils and I just put in my seeds for my veggie garden a couple of weeks ago and they are already sprouting! It’s so exciting!

Yay for normal weeks! And Spring? What’s that? I’m so over winter. We’re supposed to get more snow/sleet/gross precipitation early this week and (fingers crossed) slightly warmer weather towards the end of the week. J and E keep saying that the Groundhog is full of baloney and I’m starting to agree with them!

You did awesome in your workouts. I love track workouts but life has gotten in the way. Next week I will start back after recooperating from my half marathon yesterday!
I’d like to start incorporating some track workouts this year! We started to have signs of spring but the snow this morning is starting to go against that!
