The 5 by the 5th Challenge is back!

I can’t believe it’s time to think about the 5 by the 5th series again… didn’t we just wrap up the fall 5 and 10?

We”ll kick it off in February, which is now just a few weeks away.  In the fall, we focused on distance but for the spring, we’ll focus on speed by running a 5k or 5 mile virtual “race” each month by the 5th of the month, from February to May 2014.

The series of virtual runs provides an opportunity to win prizes every month, or to get competitive with yourself and track your speed or progress each month if you’d like to.  New runners and walkers are also welcome!





  • All of the races are free.
  • Record your time each month as evidence that you ran, and each run recorded will count toward monthly prizes.
  • Optional medals at the end of the series


Online Group Coaching (optional): We had an awesome coaching group for the 5 and 10 series, so I’m going to offer it again for this series!

  • Access to a private Facebook group
  • Weekly running tips and a speed workout for new and experienced runners
  • Weekly strength routine suggestion
  • Group sharing and support


Note: This does not take the place of individualized coaching.  Group coaching is ideal if you are an experienced runner who wants to get faster, new to running and want support and accountability, or want to start incorporating strength and speed workouts on a regular basis.

  1. I am totally glad you are doing this again. I really want to focus on speed this spring and 5 mile distance is actually one of the PR’s I am chasing! So I like the thought of ‘forcing’ myself to get these in which will only help me in the long run! So excited!

    Will you be doing the 5 or 10 again after this? ( I really liked the 10 mile one in the fall).

  2. I had FUN doing this with you in the Fall so I am IN!! Most of my focus will be on cycling this spring but I’ll definitely be working on speed for shorter distances with my running. Looking forward to this again!!

  5. I finally caught this in time to sign up! Now, lets just see if I can remember to get mine done every month. This works perfect though, as I am working on shorter distances with my coach for the spring! CHEERS.

  7. So glad you’re doing this again! I personally love the accountability of monthly races, they really keep me focused! After several injuries, I’m finally feeling like I’m back to where I was pre-injury and am really hoping to nail my goals. Thanks for doing this series again AND for being such an inspiration 🙂

  8. Thanks for having this again. I enjoyed earning my medal last winter. I started as a walker and became a runner. Unfortunately, during my marathon training, I developed IT band issues. I’ve just been cleared to start jogging slowly again. Yippee! Congratulations again on your pregnancy!!!!
