Running Survey + Half Marathon Goals

Melissa at Lift, Teach, Love, Run tagged me for the Liebster award.  Although I did this several months ago, she asked some great questions, so I thought I’d answer them.  Feel free free to answer them yourself and keep it going!

1. How did you get into or running?

I started running during a particularly tough year in collage (dad diagnosed with MS, best college friend having health concerns, boyfriend in Jamaica for the year).  Running got me through that year, and after running my first half marathon, I was hooked!

2. Do you have a bucket list? If so, what’s #1 on it?

I wrote a post with my bucket list last year.  I had to go back and check it out, and saw I can now cross off a sprint triathlon, getting RRCA certified, and qualifying for Boston- not too shabby! I haven’t done much with my yoga goals.  I guess my next big one would be racing a duathlon or 70.3 half ironman (not sure I’m ready to tackle open water swimming again!)

3. What has been your favorite race?

I’d have to say the Houston marathon.  Everything clicked, and I got my goal time and BQ.  Couldn’t have asked for more (except maybe no rain and wind next time!)

4. What motivates you to keep going?

My running friends (online and off), signing up for races, wanting to push myself and know my potential.

5. What is one habit you have that you wish you could break?

Umm, not sure.  Probably snacking constantly! But I don’t really want to break it…. :)

6. If you could have ANY job in the world – what would you do?

I am working toward it right now! I’m excited to launch my own practice, and work one on one with people who want to improve their lives through health coaching and/or running coaching.  I hope to eventually use my MSW for more policy work to tackle some of the issues at a macro level, and combat some of the health misconceptions that are out there.

7.  What’s your favorite piece of gear?

I don’t need much! Probably my Garmin.  I love feedback and numbers.

8. What is your go to pre-race meal?

Either half a bagel or a tortilla with peanut butter and sliced banana.

9. Do you take supplements? If so, what?

Right now, I’m taking a multi-vitamin and occasionally using the endurance supplement from Klean Athlete.

10. What do you love about running?

Oh goodness, what don’t I love?  :)  The quiet time and break from life, the endorphin rush, the satisfaction of completing a hard workout.  I wrote 10 things I love about running here.

11. What is your next BIG race?

I’m not sure if I’d call it “big” but my next race is a half marathon on Sunday!

Speaking of which, I’ve been meaning to chat goals.  I have no idea where I’m at fitness-wise, as I’ve been in recovery mode and only recently building back up.  But my last half marathon was a hot and humid day, so I would love to beat that time and pr, which is anything under 1:39:xx.

Texas can have humid weather even in February, so I’m crossing my fingers we get an unusually cool day!

I feel like we have been friends for so long that when you achieve something, I am equally as proud and excited with you, almost like we’re the same person, my sister or running partner, so it was fun to relive some of your highlights.     Congrats on crossing some big things off the bucket list, you are a rock star and should be very proud!

    I am totally with you on the snacking habit, I can’t break it nor do I want to!!! ( as I snack on something at my desk in my office right now!)

    We are also alike in that I LOVE my garmin, I am such a numbers person and I look forward to plugging in my watch and seeing all of the statistics, #youknowyourearunnerdwhen

  3. Fun survey! I did one similar a few months ago. I have the same snacking habit but don’t want to break it. I feel like I get to enjoy more of the foods I love in smaller doses with snacking :-) Plus, it keeps your metabolism up!

  5. Great questions! I am doing the Urban Dash this weekend with my 12 year old daughter. 5 mile obstacle course through downtown San Diego. Excited, I love these races!
