Pregnant Eats WIAW

Hi everyone,

I’ve skipped the typical What I ate Wednesday posts for a few weeks, so I thought I’d jump back in today and share what my pregnant eats look like.

This time, the third trimester has been completely different from my first pregnancy.  I’ve had bouts of nausea, especially in the morning, which I never experienced when pregnant with L.  Even though my appetite is strong throughout the day, it’s really hard to figure out what sounds good.  The foods in our cupboard or refrigerator are rarely appealing. Neither is most of the food that I make!

I’m tempted to eat at the Whole Foods hot/cold salad bar every day and stop for ice cream every night.  So I cave into both of those about once a week, but otherwise I’m making it work. :)

Here’s a typical day:

Breakfast:

June Wiaw bfast

Egg wrap with avocado (and mozzerella and tomato when we have them) – this is one thing I can count on to appeal to me.

Lunch:

June wiaw Ratatoille

Leftovers are the easiest option for lunch, like this ratatouille over polenta.  Last week I ate a lot of leftover lasagna, and this week it’s been ratatouille or baked potatoes and salmon.

Confession- on a blah eating day, I will occasionally snack my way through lunch… for example, tortilla chips with string cheese and guacamole + a rice cake with pb and raisins + some dark chocolate or some other odd combo that doesn’t leave me feeling all that great!

Dinner:

June wiaw Chicken and Shrimp Jambalaya

Last night we made Chicken and Shrimp Jambalaya in the crock pot and thankfully, it hit the spot! I linked to the recipe in Sunday’s workout recap and meal planning post.

Post-dinner:

June wiaw gelato

I’m usually looking for something in the evening, but it’s reeeally hard to make this a healthy choice.

I’m not a cereal eater, but cold cereal sounds good at night.  Or ice cream! So that’s what it’s been… lately it’s Barbara’s Multigrain Spoonfuls (reminds me of Life) with almond milk.  And any kind of gelato or ice cream will do!

Do you have an eating confession? Ever graze your way through lunch?

What are your go to summer eats?

  1. Food confessions…

    1. Very little has appealed all pregnancy, so snacking is my life.

    2. Gluten free muffins are what most helps the above.

    3. Pregnancy swims in the 2nd trimester leave me non stop hungry and wondering how to fill that black hole.

  2. In the summer lunch is all about snacking! We are usually on the beach and I’m not a fan of a big lunch while I’m on the beach so it is a lot of picking. Sometimes that’s good but other times I don’t even realize how much I am really eating. This year I am trying to be more aware!

  3. ha! I want to stop for ice cream every night too! Your eats look so delicious. My confession is that I’ve been really bad about lunch lately. I end up eating it really really late like 2 or 3pm sometimes because I have meetings or I’m teaching or I just forget. I’m sorry you’re feeling a bit sick but hopefully it will go away soon!

  4. this post cracked me up. I loved avocado and wanted mexican food the whole time I was pregnant with Lindsay. All of your eats sound great! Going with it sounds good too. It’s one time you can just say “Well, I’m pregnant, I’m going to go with my cravings” – you know??

  5. i do that a lot (snack through lunch) – poor planning, two hungry kids, constantly changing schedules (naps, feedings, etc) – and i end up just grabbing whatever i can find. we don’t buy a lot of snacky foods, so it’s usually nuts, string cheese, fruit. def not filling! but your eats look great!

summer is usually about fresh fruits and veggies because everything is in season. i do a lot of yogurt too (full fat greek yogurt). salads are easy enough – just assemble and whip up a dressing. i think i need to plan lunches like i do dinner!

  6. The Whole Foods cold/hot food bar is a really treat when you don’t want to cook and you have NO idea what you’re in the mood for (and it’s important to eat something that really pleases you. Sorry to hear that you’re having nausea on your third trimester. Every pregnancy is a little different, right?

  7. I graze my way through lunch A LOT! That’s usually when the boys are at school and I have just a few hours to get all my work done. I try to make the most out of my combos but it’s still snacking!!! I had the best Gelato in Spain that I’m not sure I can eat ice cream here again. KIDDING!!! I love ice cream and it’s the best on a hot summer night :-)

  8. My pregnancies were so different, too, and I craved such different things (or usual food that I loved no longer sounded appealing throughout my whole pregnancy). I have days where I graze myself through lunch, it just depends on the day and how hungry I am. My favorite go-to Summer eats are peaches and nectarines! I can get enough of them!

  9. I’d love for you to link up with some healthy food ideas/recipes for my 4th of July Recipe Roundup. We need some healthy bloggers to chime in. Oh and that ice cream looks incredible. Yes, grazing through lunch has been me this week….so busy. Hope you’re feeling good. Are you going to Idea World conference? 😉 xo, Jess
