One year of blogging!

One year ago, I sat down to start a running blog as a place to document my training and races, so as not to bore my family and friends on our personal family blog.Β  πŸ™‚Β  It’s morphed and changed over the year, to include training tips, nutrition and recipes, a purposeful running series and now a menu planning link up.

Although it can be a time-suck at times, I really love blogging.Β  And I had no idea the depth of relationships that can be built through blogging.Β  Inow have friends all over the country (and the world!) that I could meet up with if I’m passing through.Β  I’ve already gotten to meet many blogging friends at races and conferences like Fitbloggin.Β  I hope I get a chance to meet many more of you in the next year.

Despite hitting the one year mark, I still feel like I’m trying to figure out what posts are most helpful or interesting, and what YOU like to read about.Β  I know a few of you would be content if it were all running, all the time, and others of you only stop by for What I ate Wednesday.

So can I ask you for a minute of your time to give me a little feedback?

I’ve considered adding a weekly training log, or more nutrition research and things I’m learning at Integrative Nutrition, but I don’t want to bore you if that’s not your thing.Β Β  And if there’s something you really don’t like, I’d love to know that, too!

If you’re happy with everything as it is, feel free to skip to the bottom and check “all of the above.”

If you took the time to answer, even if it was simply the “all of the above” button, thank you! I love feedback.

I don’t have a one-year-blogiversary giveaway as I’ve been spreading them out all month (Earth Yoga clothing, Reebok Shoes, etc) but yesterday’s giveaway for a case of PopChips is still open, so if you missed it, hop over there to enter.Β  While you’re there, you can check out the lovely menu plans that are linked up from some inspiring bloggers!

Thanks, friends, for making this a meaningful year.Β  I never could have guessed the opportunities that blogging has brought. Plus,Β  I don’t think I would have signed up for Integrative Nutrition without the opportunity to meet and chat with others who have done it.Β  I am excited to see what the next year will bring!

Here’s a little sneak peak for 2013:Β  I’m working on a Virtual Race Series from January to June, where you run a 5k orΒ  5 miler at the beginning of each month (for speed tracking or simply for fun). More details will be coming soon.

If you blog, how long have you been blogging? What has surprised you along the way? If you don’t, what kind of blog posts do you prefer?

    • Yes- it is much more work than I expected… it’s probably a good thing we don’t realize that when we start up! But I think I’ve gotten much more efficient with my time since I began blogging.

    • I thought we started around the same time… and thank you. It’s been interesting to reflect on how much it has changed but I think it has become a more complete picture of what I’m interested in, beyond running.

  1. Congrats on one year! I think you are doing a great job, and obviously many others agree with me. I look forward to hearing more about what you are learning at Intigrative Nutrition–that stuff is fascinating to me. But ultimately you should write about what YOU want to write about. πŸ™‚ You’ve done so much in just a year–keep up the great work!

    • Thanks so much, Ali! I needed to hear that… I know I have a variety of readers and not every post applies to everyone, but you’re right, it’s not about pleasing others as much as finding and sharing my passions. πŸ™‚

  2. I’ve been blogging since March, but have really gotten into it for the past 2-3 months. What surprises is how welcoming the blogging community is! Everyone is so friendly and supportive!

  3. Happy Blogiversary!! I am so glad you started blogging and that I have had the pleasure of reading your blog and getting to know you in person! I agree that one of my favorite aspects of blogging is making friends all over the country/world, its so great to connect with people that share the same passions as I do.

  4. Happy bloggyversary! I love blogs for the way it’s author writes, not necessarily the specific topic. I think you do a great job of letting your true self and your family shine through in your posts. I’ll be blogging for 4 years in January.

  5. Happy Happy Blogoversary!! I too am so thankful for this crazy blogging community and never expected to gain so much from it. So happy to have been able to meet in person and to spend some time together in Baltimore. I agree with Marcia too – I love blogs because of the author and their personality vs any specific topic per se. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2013!!

  6. Those are wise words… thanks for that perspective. That’s definitely why I read blogs as well!
Yes- so glad we could connect! I hope to meet up again assuming we’re back in the northeast in the next few years…

  7. Congrats on your one year blog anniversary! I have been blogging for a little over 4 months now and I am surprised at how time intensive it is! I love it, but I certainly have to schedule certain amounts of time each day to devote to it, in order to keep up. I have learned so much and continue to learn something new everyday. It is fun to connect with others and develop new friendships, as well as a community of such supportive bloggers!

  8. Happy blogiversary! You have a fantastic blog, and you should be so proud of what you’ve created and achieved through it.

I gave you feedback, and I love what you do – I just love hearing about you and how everything is going running wise. Much blog love Laura!

  9. Congrats Laura on the one year mark! It’s been 2 years for me and I too love it. I agree it can take up your time but it is rewarding meeting new friends and sharing and exchanging ideas. There’s so much more I’d like to do with blogging but it gets challenging with work, kids, and life and hoping next Sunday I’ll link up for What’s for dinner!

    • I definitely know what you mean… there is never enough time in the day to do everything I want to do! But I love it, too. And I love your blog! So glad we could “meet” through them.

    • Thank you for your sweet words, Carrie. That’s helpful… I want to have my audience in mind, but I know there is a wide variety of interests, and you’re right- the point is to write about what I want to write about. Anyone who wants to come along for the ride is welcome. This might mean a little more nutrition in the days to come… πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Laura! I am loving the round up posts, too. I feel more organized when I can group recipes together, and it’s fun to feature the many talented recipe writers, like you!!

  11. Happy Anniversary!!! I’m not even sure how long I’ve been blogging. I know I started when I was pregnant, so at least 15 months. HA! I’m not nearly as dedicated or as good at it as you are though!

  12. Congrats on your one-year mark! You’ve done a really great job with it. And look at all the amazing opportunities that have come your way. I think that, and the people I’ve met, is what has most hit home with me since starting a blog. It really does take you in surprising directions!

  13. Congrats on a successful year! You have really grown your blog a short amount of time. What are your tips for successful blogging? I really struggle with what to write about, too. I feel like I know a little about a lot of things but not a lot about anything! LOL

  14. I’m so glad you started blogging, Laura–you are a natural! I think your content is a really nice mix (and I say that as someone who mostly focuses on the running side of things).

  15. Just found your blog and can’t wait to check out more! Congratulations on 3 years of blogging! I just hit my 5-year-mark and couldn’t agree more with you… it is amazing the relationships one can build with complete strangers through these blogs! And I think the way they morph and change into something different is incredible, too.

  16. Happy Anniversary! One year and still going strong! I think I have been reading you for about that long. I first saw you over at Jill’s Fitness Friday, I think! Awww…the memories. Keep doing what you are doing; I am enjoying it! (PS Your posts are doing weird things in my Reader again…no posts, then like 4 or 6 at once).

  17. Happy (belated) blogiversary! I only discovered your blog a few months ago, but I really enjoy the variety of posts that you write and look forward to reading more in the months and years to come. As for myself, I’ve been blogging in one capacity or another for over three years. I’ve had my current blog for about 2.5 years.

  18. I love your blog and keep coming back for more just they way you have it. πŸ™‚ I definitely enjoy the mixture of running info and nutrition info. It basically hits the things that are important in my life right now. So I voted all of the above but I also wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all your info along that way since I’ve been reading the past couple of months. πŸ™‚ I wish I had enough readership to take a poll to get feedback like this too. While my blog has been around forever, I’ve only been focusing on the health/fitness subject for a little less than a year, so technically I’m still growing. πŸ™‚
