Off to the beach + 5 by the 5th winners

Hi all,

After just a few more health coaching sessions this morning, I’m packing up and heading out to the beach with some of my best girlfriends for the weekend! I am always ready for a break on Fridays and I’m especially excited to get away with friends and relax.  After an especially busy week, it’s much needed!

This week also wraps up the final race for the spring 5 by the 5th series.  I hope you all enjoyed pushing yourself at the beginning of each month, and saw some progress along the way! My times got slower and slower, as I knew they would.  :)  But I’m happy to still be running comfortably at 28 weeks pregnant.

Most days I take it really easy with a 9:45- 10:00 pace.  I now sometimes walk the steeper hills, too.  I’m getting slower by the week, but I’m fine with it.

I did have a surprisingly good workout this week for my virtual 5k where my pace felt comfortable in the 9:15 range and I ran up all the hills (which brought my average pace closer to 9:30).  I never know when an “easy” run like that will come, so I’m celebrating them these days.

We’ll see what the next 10-12 weeks will bring…

Here are this month’s winners:

Fitletic Belts– I love running with a belt to carry fuel and/or my phone and keys.  Fitletic has so many options… I really like the ones with race bib holders, so you don’t have to worry about shedding layers or putting pins through a nice tech shirt.  They have many other variations with one or two pockets, hydration options, belts for gels, etc.

The winner is… Jenny W

Lock Laces- I first used Lock Laces when training for a triathlon, and they were perfect for slipping sneakers back on after the swim without untying and retying.  They’re just as convenient for running shoes, so you can slip them right off and on.

The winner is… Matthew D.

2 Camel Back Arch Quick Grips- For short runs in the spring and summer, I love to grab one of these bottles.  They’re lightweight, easy to carry, and a good alternative when you don’t need the entire fuel belt.

The winners are… Kim P and Tara H.

Congrats, all! Email me with your address, please!

  1. We’re celebrating healthy twins (found out yesterday), so really this weekend is about loving each moment, sleep, and a few swims (family and a solo Mom one on Mother’s Day).

  2. Some of my times were better than others, but none of them beat my best time from the last round! I have been in a running slump in that respect. I am improving as the year goes on!
Have a Happy Mother’s day! I am not sure what we are doing yet, the weather is not supposed to be real great on Saturday, but awe are thinking family bike ride, or a trip to the beach!

  3. Way to keep up the running… And listening to your body by slowing down when you need to :) I’m looking forward to seeing an old friend this weekend and celebrating my cousin’s marriage. Enjoy your trip!

  4. Great job on your runs! What an inspiration! :)

This weekend I plan to ‘relax’ by camping with my husband and three young boys. HA!

Maybe not necessarily RELAX… but it will be a fun filled adventure for sure! :)

  5. Thanks for vouching for the bib clips on belts– I had sort of wondered if they were reliable.

Have a great beachy weekend, and a happy mother’s day!
