Let’s meet for coffee

Hope you all enjoyed the 4th of July! We met some friends for lunch, and then more friends for dinner.  It was a late bedtime for L but worth it!

I have really enjoyed the virtual coffee dates I had with Carla, Christine and Amanda and thought I’d keep the fun going today.

So let’s pretend we’re meeting up for coffee or tea, okay? We’d settle into a local cafe (I like Brasil’s Cafe in Houston). I’d get a latte and ask what’s going on with you and listen to the latest joys and stresses in your life.

After sharing, you might ask how things are going with the move.

I’d explain that we’re not nearly as stressed out as we should be for a cross country move, largely because his job is reimbursing movers and packers, so we went with both for the first time ever.

I’d share that I’m a little nervous to see how L will adjust when she realizes her friends will no longer be part of her world, but I’m glad she’s a social butterfly and makes friends easily.

You might ask what the latest is on the adoption saga and I’d sigh and roll my eyes and say not much.  We’ve worked out all possible scenarios and haven’t found any great options, but we’re going attempt to make it work with our current agency which will involve some sacrifices on our part.

I’d leave it at that, unless you pressed for details, at which point I’d fill you in and ask what you would do.

I’d share how much I’m loving being self-employed and helping others with their health or running goals, and we’d talk about your exercise routine and how your job is going.

Then we’d finish the last few sips of our drinks and recognize it’s time to get going.

What’s your favorite coffee shop drink? What else do you think we’d talk about?

  1. Thanks for the coffee break – I needed that! I’m happy with my coffee from my kitchen Keruig but I also love a Vanilla soy latte from Starbucks:-) We would probably also talk about what great summers we’re having and how we’re celebrating the fourth…I was SO happy and relaxed on the beach yesterday with my family that I ALMOST had time for a nap.
Enjoy your weekend and keep your head up about the adoption & good luck with your move!! Everything will be all right…:-)

  2. Lovely post! My favorite coffee drink in the summer is iced coffee with vanilla soy milk and cinnamon. I would also ask what you’re looking forward to about the NYC running scene, and if you’re planning on joining a running group, and what you’re most excited to show L in NYC!

    • Yes! We could talk all about NYC. I’d have lots of questions for you! I do hope to get connected with a running group… or at the very least, find a few good running buddies!

  3. Favorite coffee shop drink is definitely a dark roast coffee with a splash of caramel and skim. It’s an easy staple.

Since I’ve never really met or e-met you, I’m sure we’d probably talk about all kinds of things ranging from how you juggle everything you do + family, and moving (you’re on a big one and I’ve moved 11 times!) and where we’ve lived, to running and eating well – I’d ask you a bunch of dietary questions! Since I like to pick people’s brains, it’d prob turn into a pretty lengthy convo. :) Happy Friday!

  4. I think I would love meeting for coffee/tea with you! :)
I would talk about our adoption journey with you.
I would honestly really love to talk to you about being self-employed in the nutrition and fitness world and how you got to that point. Maybe after you get settled, we could correspond???
I hope your move goes smoothly!!

  5. sweet post. I would order an iced green tea (unsweetened). I would remark on how well you are adapting to the stresses in your life and high five you for using a moving company. We would talk kids, work, running, and food! Swap ideas for making the life of a working, running mom a little easier. And I might spend a bit of time complaining about the heat and how I may never acclimate.

  6. i love all the flavored syrups at coffee shops. i know they’re loaded with sugar and other bad stuff, but every once in a blue moon i do enjoy them. the best i had was a white chocolate raspberry latte!!

  7. I was just thinking yesterday morning how much I miss you, and how I know we would be so tight if we lived close. You are one of those people, who just makes everyone around her feel loved and so happy. I feel blessed that I had the chance to meet you face to face… you are even better in person, if that’s possible, but it is, you are! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! xoxo

  8. I’m not much of a coffee person (I know, gasp!), but I do enjoy a really good hot chocolate every now and then. I’d love to hear all about your job, and then I’d tell you a little about mine. I’d also share my excitement (and terror!) about my fall marathon. I’m sure we’d spend lots of time talking about our girls and the funny things they’re doing right now.

Good luck with your move! Having someone pack up your stuff and haul it for you is the BEST!

  9. Aww, this was cute :) I’m glad that you aren’t too stressed about the move (and now you’ll be closer to me!) Adoption can be very frustrating, but it is all worth it in the end!

I like white chocolate mochas the best.

  10. I love these coffee/tea chats. I’ve been craving more of these lately I think. I’m glad that you’re not as stressed about the move and movers and packers definitely help!! I think that L will be OK. I think that’s one of the great things about kids is how resilient they are, you know? I’m looking forward to a real-life coffee date soon! And I’d have an iced coffee.
Christine @ Love, Life, Surf recently posted..Friday Round-Up: Learning OpportunitiesMy Profile

    • So true about the resiliency- I’m expecting a few sad days here and there, but I know it won’t last long. And yes!! Really looking forward to seeing you in person at some point soon!

  11. I have never had a cup of coffee in my life, but I’m addicted to Grande Non-Fat No Water Chai Tea! I’m trying to cut back since there is so much sugar in it, but once in a while treat myself…like I did this morning :) Over our bevvies of choice we would chat about juggling work, kids and fitness and I would pick your brain about how I can learn to like running again. I seem to hate it. I want to like it, but have totally lost my running mojo. Fortunately CrossFit is keeping be in shape these days…it’s becoming another addiction for me…but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that ! Good luck with the move…having movers will certainly reduce the stress levels! Enjoy the rest of your day!

    • Crossfit is a great addiction- definitely an awesome way to get fit! There’s nothing wrong with losing your running mojo… it may come back on it’s own, or allow yourself to run with no goals in mind, just for the release of stress or to take in a new view/pretty path.

  12. I love coffee dates! I’m so glad the move is going easy for you! Stress free is great! I hope everything with the adoption works out stress free too! I’d love to have a coffee date with you irl! I’d take you to my favorite local coffee shop called The Coffee Loft and I’d order you the Irish Kiss with a shot of expresso! 😉

  13. I love meeting friends at a coffee shop. Locally it’s usually Starbucks. If it’s in the morning I would def have coffee. Any other time of day I would have iced green tea. I’m sure I would have thoughts of talking about a variety of things but I’m also sure we would talk a lot about running and overall health and fitness.

One day we will meet IRL 😉

  14. How great would it be if we could all really meet like this. I’m glad to hear that the move isn’t completely stressful for you and that you’re in such a good place with your job.

I would tell you how much I’m happy to be running again after Allie but that there are days where I struggle to get it all done but such is life. I would sip my tea or latte either sounds fabulous.

    Have a great weekend!

  15. Thanks for the coffee! I think we would talk about change and how difficult it can be at times, but we would leave on a good note, knowing that not all change is a bad thing! :0) My fav coffee drink is a white chocolate mocha.

  16. Love it!!

Glad you have packers and movers…that’ll decrease the stress!
She’ll def make new friends but I can imagine its tough to think about!
I love lattes, with nothing added! Mmmm!
I’d ask ya about how long does the adoption process take? I know it varies A LOT, but this is a topic I know little about but am inspired and intrigued by it!

    • I wish we would have had more time to meet up while we were here! Houston is just so big! The domestic adoption process varies, partly because it’s the mom who chooses the family- not the agency. But our contract is for 2 years and most families are connected with a baby withint 12-18 months (which would be next spring for us)… so we’ll see!

  17. Coffee sounds so lovely. I enjoy a flavored latte {and don’t think about what is in the flavoring} my current favorite is Coconut Caramel.

I would just love to sit and chat about running, life, your move and adoption. I’d probably whine about my kids having been sick and how tired I am though.

  18. Love these posts! Hope we can get coffee in real life when you move to the NYC area!! I think moving at L’s age is pretty easy, since you haven’t had the years to develop really close friendships, so hopefully she’ll adjust quickly! :)

  19. I love this post. I’d probably get an iced coffee because it’s hot here in Texas. We’d talk about that darn heat and I’d tell you how I love what you do with running. You always inspire me and I think about you all the time when I’m running and racing. I’d tell you about my 5k from yesterday and how I keep on getting faster with every race! Thank you for inspiring Laura!

  20. I drink black coffee; I’m a cheap coffee date. Heh

We could talk about adoption from my perspective and experience. And then maybe talk about how to improve my speed a little or… as I have improved speed, the maintaining of said speed. Then we’d talk about kids, because kids are awesome.

    • Wish we could meet, Jenna- I’d love to hear your adoption experience. And talk running, of course!

  21. I’d like a tall Starbucks caffe latte please with non-fat milk :)
I’d encourage you to stay calm and breathe deeply through these pretty big life changes.
And, then, I’d want you to tell me the best way to get back to running after being off the road for a few weeks due to a non-running related injury. I’d want to hear any stories you have about the same thing :)

    • Thank you for the reminder to take deep breaths. I just did. :) And I wish we could talk running, too! I’d say ease back in with less weekly miles than you had been running (and all easy miles)for a week or two and gradually build from there. You may not have lost as much fitness as you think!

  22. Cute post!!!
I like hot chai but only when it’s cold so I would probably just drink water or maybe a Diet Coke.

I would say that having someone pack my stuff would cause me stress (they can load it though!). I actually like packing.

I would ask you some running questions because I know that you have a ton of knowledge about all things running.

And, then I would say “see y’all later” when it was time to leave!!!

  23. This is a great post. I love the idea, because those are exactly the things I’d ask you about. As for me, I’d order a hot or iced coffee with no sweetener and a little bit of skim milk. Then we’d talk about my slow re-entry into running, my love of cycling mixed with lack of knowledge for it, and my nervousness about signing up for the right 70.3.

  24. Wishing you all the best with the move. L will have no problem with friends at her age. The family building process expands and contracts. Easier said than done I know, but try to go with the natural rhythm of life and the opportunities that present themselves. Believe in your heart all will work out in it’s own perfect way and it’s own perfect time.

  25. Love this post Laura. I am happy that you are able to hire movers for your big relocation. I know that it will probably take some of the stress off of you. Everything always happens for a reason so I am sure that things will fall into place when they need to.

My favorite drink right now is a non fat Oregon Chai. I have been frequenting a cute coffee shop in my neighborhood called “The Shop”. I always forget about it, but they have amazing coffee and treats.

  26. One day I hope we can have an IRL coffee chat. I’d take an iced coffee and we’d chat about running (of course)and life with three year olds. I’d also want to pick your brain about health coaching. It’s something that I’ve really been interested in and actually might be able to expand in my current job.

Good call on the packers and movers – best decision ever when we’ve moved!

  30. Moving can be difficult but the younger they are the easier it is toast new friends. I’m sure she will be fine.

I’m thinking about becoming self employed because I’m afraid my time at my current position will be cut short. There are lots of little wheels Turing I that head of mine.

  31. Double espresso for me! I would add the following conversational topics: what books we wish we had time to read, and whether or not I have finally managed to pick out a nail polish color that doesn’t make my toes look like they belong to a 90 year old lady living in Palm Beach. (I really need to get some local girlfriends fast! It’s hard to do the polish check virtually . . .)

  32. I’m trying to cut back on coffee these days, so my drink of choice at the moment (aka IT’S HOT!) is iced tea. I am trying to get ready for having a baby in less than 3 weeks, and I’d probably ask you for advice of what I’m forgetting. I still need to pack a hospital bag, I guess, and I’ve got ingredients on my shopping list for a few freezer meals… Nesting just isn’t kicking in like it should, because I’m not nearly stressed enough (although I did nearly have a hormone-fueled breakdown this morning, so that’s always fun.)

Thanks for the coffee date! It’s way too hard to fit these in these days…

  33. Having coffee with you is fun! So maybe I can press for details off line? Last I heard NJ was not going to be feasible for the agency? I am curious as to why? Is it only NJ? Or several states?

I would tell you that moving has never really been stressful for me, although I don’t have kids or too much furniture and I have a brother and friends who are pretty helpful. Thank goodness! Also, I enjoy organizing, sorting, packing and unpacking. I guess you could say I am a bit weird like that.

I would ask you more about your move. I bet you are excited! I bet you will not miss running it TX! I can’t wait to come and visit you once you get settled in! I have never run a race in NJ!
