Lately- Running, Resets and a Bear

Hi friends!

How was the extra long weekend? I wish we had 3 days every weekend… it was so nice to get to Sunday night and know that we had another whole day to take it easy.  We had friends over on Saturday, a play date Sunday, and met friends at a park for a picnic last night.

It was a great mix of social time, down time and gorgeous weather!

6.5 miles at 36 weeks new trail

Yesterday, I met a new running buddy for a 5 mile run- woohoo!! She is also relatively new to this area and we are nearly identical in terms of pace.  We also both lived in Lancaster (at different times) and have a lot more in common than we expected.  We even began talking about co-hosting a new local Moms Run This Town chapter as the closest one is 30 minutes away.

I’m thrilled to have connected with her!

In the last few months, I’ve also connected with Rebecca and Jen, founders of the Urban Detox Club and also Integrative Nutrition grads.  Interestingly enough, I remember them doing a mini video segment for our IIN course on the business side of coaching and it’s been fun to get to know them in real life!

5 day reset challenge smoothies

I’m also joining them for a 5 day reset beginning next Monday.  A few of my health coach clients are joining as well and I can add anyone else for a discount so if you’re curious for the details, email me! I’ll share my experience here too.

In other news, there’s been a bear sighting multiple times in our neighborhood this week! Between that and the coyotes and wild turkeys, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m really in the suburbs of NYC?

Do you run alone or with running buddies?

Have you ever seen a bear? I came across one on a hike in the Adirondacks and I wouldn’t mind if I never repeat an experience like that again!

  1. I saw a mama bear and cubs once while running in college. I have to say it was one of the most terrifying events I’ve ever seen! I ran my fastest mile home that day LOL.

That’s awesome you found someone to run with. I’m sure it was such a great time to relax and do that!

  2. We see lots of random wildlife here (inner suburbs of DC), but no bears, thank goodness. And I must need more coffee because I read your title as “beer” and was reading your post thinking detox AND beer? Bear makes more sense LOL.

  3. Oh my gosh a Bear!!! That would be scary!!
Luckily there are no bears around here – just some deer and wild turkeys!

  4. Yay for new running buddies! It’s always the best when you are a complete match. I’ve seen a bear once while running years ago at my parents. Thankfully I saw it peek it’s head out of the tall grass along the road early enough that I could stop and very slowly back away before high tailing it in the opposite direction. Definitely spooky although I probably scared him just as much as he scared me!

  5. I have never seen a bear, but I know they have wandered around my Mom’s neighborhood and I almost encountered one on a hike in Colorado…Thankfully my dog gave us warning and we came across a big pile of bear poop…LOL! I run alone as it is my quiet time. It would definitely be fun though to have a running buddy. Jealous of your pretty weather…It’s been totally crazy here in Texas!

  6. It has been a long time since I ran with anyone. Mostly because I am frustratingly slow at the moment and also in a new town so away from my running friends!
I haven’t seen a bear in a long time but I did sight them in the woods in NJ growing up!

  7. That’s so exciting about your new running buddy! I haven’t had a running buddy in years because it’s so hard to find someone with the same pace and schedule, but I’ve come to enjoy the “me” time of running by myself.
I’ve never seen a bear on my run but I’m paranoid now that I live in Washington of seeing one! We went on a hike this weekend and the visitor’s center offered “bear cans” and encouraged people to carry bear mace!

  8. I love and cherish the times I get to run with friends because they are few and far between, plus I don’t really know anyone who runs my pace!! As for the bear – yes, my dad has one that lives in the woods behind his house and likes to make regular visits. SO SCARY!!! And we have a lot of fox and wild turkeys around here too. Not fun!! be careful out there!

  9. Bear sitings near my house too, so while my dog is laid up from surgery and I’m running on my own, I am usually faster where my road cuts through the edge of the forest!

  10. Yikes on the bear! Never run into one and I’d rather not! My son and neighbor swear they have seen a coyote on our street, though, which is just crazy. This is just too suburban to really picture it, but I guess you never know.

I’m happy for you to have found a new running partner! Sounds like a perfect match and I hope you two can connect regularly!

  11. I just became a co-leader of a MRTT chapter. I LOVE the group and it is such a great way to connect with local moms and kiddos. The group runs are really fun. We have a closed facebook group and it is great way to connect with local moms that have similar interests.

  12. Wow, I can’t imagine running into a bear! We have a large raccoon that likes to visit our yard and an opossum that snoops around too. Crazy!
I once did a race in Wyoming and that day they spotted a bear – I ran anyway and clapped my hands and sang the entire time. Can’t believe I did that.
Yay for running friends! Best thing ever!!
