Good news, Esprit 10k and Athleta Giveaway

Thanks for all the encouragement as we’ve been house-hunting this week! Good news… we got the house we wanted! Of course, there’s always the chance something could fall through in the next month or two, but it’s unlikely.  We’re so excited!! And relieved, exhausted, emotionally drained… you name it, we’ve felt it this week.  Were flying back to Houston today.

I got in a few runs this week (NJ is hilly! Training there will be interesting.) I finally got my speed workout in last night.  I even got my husband to jog with me to the track last night.  It was being used, so we found a .3 mile loop around the baseball field.  I got in 9 repeats, at 5:47-6:00 pace.  Hubs did push ups and played the tough coach.  :)

My goal 5k is next Saturday… I’m as ready as I can be.  After that race, I decided to add one more.

But this one is just for fun.  (I learned my lesson last year about 10ks in May in Texas).

Esprit de She asked if I would be an ambassador for their Houston race, and I can’t turn that down! And if any other local runners want to join me, I’d love to see you there!

  1. Yay, good for you finding a place. I know that can be really stressful.
Yes, I continue to race when I can. I love competing against myself so I am always looking for races to do that. We have a night series here and I am contemplating doing them. I am a morning runner (first thing after getting my boys to school) so I am not sure how night time will be.
    Have a safe trip!

  2. Congrats on the house! Moving is such an ordeal but it can also be fun and exciting. i’m sure adjusting to hills will be fun for you! ; )

Good luck with the 5k! Love the t-shirt. I’m racing an all-women’s event this weekend (actually posted on the topic of all-women’s races, too).

  3. Congrats on the house of your dreams! I signed up for a 5k this summer and I’m doing it with my 11 y/o son! I don’t run on a regular basis but like to do other forms of cardio so this is a big deal for me!

  4. I’ve a triathlon on Sunday. My goal time for this sprint in 1:34:00. I’m really hoping to place in this small town event!

  5. House hunting is so exhausting. Glad your offer was accepted! I have two summer races – the Lawyers Have Heary 10K in June and a July 4th 8K that I run for the watermelon at the finish. 😉

  6. Congrats on the house and heading back to the east coast! I run for both fun and goal, I let my legs dictate which it will be. Hope you have a great 5k race and can’t wait to hear from you soon! Good luck!

  7. I’ve done both…It took me a while but I realized that not only that I cannot possibly PR EVERY race, but I shouldn’t try. I’m having a great time this year running some races as fun/training runs with my friends. Still get the excitement of a race, but lower stress!

  8. Congratulations on the house!!! I love having hills nearby because training on them makes racing on flat courses (or hilly ones, for that matter) soooo much easier.
I usually try to race for time but now that I’m racing more often I’ve accepted that not every race can be a PR, and I’m learning to race for fun!

  9. Congrats on the house! I feel like I’m shadowing you! We’re house hunting as well! And I ran my giveaway a while back!

I can’t wait for the 10K, I’m nowhere near your speed, I’ll be about double your time probably! I really do hope that we can meet up and chat a minute before you leave Houston!!!

  10. Yay — congrats on the house!! What a relief :)

I am not racing this summer, but my first postpartum race (a 15K) will be in September, which is pretty much still summer here. I’m SOOOO excited though, I don’t even care about the weather.

  11. I will be racing in the summer months this year. Just a few 5Ks. I’ve decided to train for another fall half though, back-injury-withstanding, so that will be my main focus this summer.

Congrats on the house! I’m near NJ four times per year on the Philly side of the line!

  12. Where in NJ are you going to be? We spent several weeks close to Camden one summer. Chris had a class and the boys and I played tourist – so much fun!!!
WooHoo on the house – hope it goes smoothly from here on!!

  13. I don’t go into every race with the intention to get a new PR because I find that takes away from the overall experience. I mainly race for fun, because I’m not very fast. But I have hit my under 30 min 5k goal and my under 2:30 half goal and those have kept me pretty satisfied for the last year and a half.

  14. It depends on the race. I try to run one race every month February through November. I’m trying to get my 5k time under 25 minutes so I’ve entered a few races that will allow a better chance of beating that time. I also have a few races (like one in Aruba in October) that I just want to run and enjoy the scenery.

I may be training for another half for late summer or early fall. I haven’t made any firm decisions about that though.

  15. I am so happy for you! Congrats again on the house, and welcome to NJ :)

I have learned that any races during summer = fun. For me summer is the time that I improve the most. I gained LOTS of speed training in the heat last summer and my fall times dropped like crazy. Not so much the same for me and winter training. I am still not feeling it this spring.

I love races but have learned that I can’t actually “race” every weekend – but utilize races as part of the bigger picture in training i.e half marathons this spring integrated to marathon/ultra training runs! Keeps it interesting.

  16. Congrats on the house! Welcome to the north east! When will you be moving?

I typically continue to race during the summer but usually shorter stuff and just continue to train for all distances. My fist half-iron is this summer, that will be my first big race I have done during the summer!

I have issues running a race not for time, the competitive nature in me comes out. BUT I do like doing some for fun, it’s better and easier for me to do that if I have someone running it for fun with me. Theres a halloween race here in Rochester that I do every year in a different costume and my sister and I always run it for fun together (Last year I ran alone, she was preggo) it was a few weeks before my marathon so I took it semi-easy but faster than I would have if I had someone else there with me!

  17. Congratulations on finding a house! I usually pretty much run for fun but one race I run every year I try to improve year over year. It doesn’t always happen, but I attempt it.

  18. Congratulations on the house!! Very exciting! I hope everything works out for you guys :)

Yay about being an ambassador for the race, it looks like fun. We do race in the summer and our half Ironman is in the middle of July, but at least New York isn’t as bad, hopefully!

  19. There are not too many around here in the summer, but I got in for the Peachtree in Atlanta in July so I will keep training for that. The heat and humidity are already so bad here in south Florida.

  20. The shirts are so cute!!!! Good luck with your 5K…I have my half marathon this weekend….so excited!!
After the half, I have my marathon in may and then I will just train over the summer. (Fall half marathon and marathon)

  21. Congrats on the house.I’m in Jersey. I run races all summer.I did most of them with my girls ,and I plan on doing the same this summer.

  22. I’m jealous of your move to NY. Congrats on finding a place. I’m an Esprit de She ambassador too. I’ll see you at the race. I’m dragging Kelli Stilley along too!

  23. It depends! I’m still a relative newbie to running….so far it has been a mix of running for fun versus running for time. I hope that with more experience I can maintain the combination of time and fun!

  24. I have been running pretty consistently since last fall. My challenge is the winter months. Living near Buffalo, NY, winter days can be problematic. Thank goodness for my treadmill! I do run throughout the summer and have made this year the year I really start improving my time and endurance for racing.

  25. House hunting and home buying are so tremendously stressful! I’m really glad that you got the house that you wanted! I know that when we were planning our move to Anchorage it was a huge relief when we found the place we wanted and our offer was accepted.

  26. Congrats!! I am so excited for you!! cool that you will be running the 10k. I am very interested and trying to figure out if my schedule permits. I will definitely be running for run on this one though!

  27. I usually run for fun – but occasionally I try for a PR. Right now, I am just getting back into running after 5 years and 2 babies… so it is ALL FOR FUN – we’ll get back into times when I can actually FINISH to begin with! Thinking of going to the Athleta Atlanta… but it’s a ways from me – wish they had a closer one! Will be interested to hear how you liked it!

  28. Congrats on the house! That can be a stressful process. I am currently running just for fun, as I’m just starting out. But I’m hoping to keep it up long term, and improve over time!

  29. This will be my first 5K race! I’m running just to get in shape…more for fun than goal, but I guess my goal is just to finish. LOL! Excited to run my first one. I’m from Jersey (sounds like you are moving to Jersey? Enjoy the cooler temps. I should have started training this fall and run a race this winter but that didn’t happen so hopefully I’ll survive a race in May :-). Maybe I’ll see you there!

  30. I’m new to running. I ran my first 5k this month. It was hard to finish but the feeling of completion was amazing! Officially addicted and can’t wait for the esprit de she to come to VA.

  31. So happy for your house news!!! I race all summer, but I know that my last chance at a 5K PR is a race I do in early June – after that, weather is just not conducive to PRs, and I just give every race the best effort I can, and I’m happy with that.
