Crazy sites on my run + WIAW

Happy Wednesday! How’s your week going?

My energy is higher, now that the sunshine is back, and my week of nausea seems to be over, too.  Whew!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been a little more careful when I’m walking or running in a 3-4 mile radius near our house.  Twice I came near three wild turkeys, and then a few other times they were stopping traffic on the road and walking right up to the cars… they have no fear!

3 wild turkeys

I’ve been told they’re very aggressive and so if I see them in their usual spot, I loop back and find a different route.  It’s strange because this is a heavily dense residential area, but there are some green spaces way up the hill.  I assume that’s where they came from.

For What I ate Wednesday, this is the final week of our whole foods reset.  It’s hard to believe it will be over in just a few days! The next one will be mid September, and then I’ll continue to hold them in January and April, so if you missed it, there will be lots of opportunities to join us next time.

Here’s some of what I’ve been eating:

May 5 breakfast2Eggs with smashed avocado and hummus and greens on a brown rice tortilla

May 5 breakfastOats with bananas, chia and cinnamon

May 5 lunchLeftover Egg stuffed Potatoes and greens

May 5 lunch 2Leftover Inside Out Sushi Salad

May 5 dinnerMonday night, my husband grilled turkey burgers, veggie kebabs and made our first batch of sourdough bread from the starter

I’m still snacking on smoothies, almonds and raisins, and yogurt or cheese as we added dairy back in this week.

And now I’m off to give a presentation to a corporation in NYC this morning… wish me luck! :)

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen on a run?

Have you broken out the grill yet?

  1. We have some crazy turkeys in our area too. I’ve never had a problem with them but now I know to run in the opposite direction if they’re blocking the road! I see deer quite a bit. It’s always frightening to have on jump out of the woods at you. And I’ve seen a bear once…very scary!

    Good luck today!

  2. That is CRAZY about the wild turkeys. We have our share of wild animals on our property too, but we kind of expect it. We live in the middle of a cornfield, literally.
I would love your sourdough recipe. I have one and used to make it often, but it just seemed very high in sugar.

  3. Good luck!! I’m sure you will be amazing. As for the wild turkeys? I’m always afraid of them too! I don’t want to find out how aggressive they are.
Those egg stuffed potatoes look SO good. I had never thought of doing that!? Must scroll back up and pin!

  4. I’ve been around a lot of wild turkeys without incident, but perhaps those in your neighborhood are thugs. I’ve seen lots of stuff on my runs: naked people, people having sex in the open (twice), a guy shooting a pellet gun at geese in our path (last week), lots of drug deals, bears, moose, elk, bobcats, hoards of deer.

Running adventures are so much fun. One never knows what will happen. I’ve gone to garage sales on a run, helped push broken down cars out of intersections, located lost puppies, etc.

They cover so much ground so quickly that one sees all kinds of stuff.

  5. Turkeys are mean!!!! Watch out for them

The strangest thing I’ve experienced while running was a moose in town in Alaska. Now it’s not uncommon for residents of Alaska from for a girl from the Midwest I didn’t want to cross their paths. Luckily the moved on fast.
