Blogging, Blending and Moving

Hey friends!

I have lots of updates for you, so we’re going bullet style today.  Ready?

Blog Feed Changes:

First of all, did you see that Google Reader is going away? The two best replacements I’ve heard are either Bloglovin or Feedly.  I don’t know if I can recommend one over the other, but both can be a helpful way to organize the blogs you read.  (Or you can subscribe in the sidebar to receive posts via email.)

Blog Conferences:

Last year I had the opportunity to attend Fitbloggin and really enjoyed it.  I learned a lot about blogging, met up with some good blogging friends, and (possibly the best part) had a weekend just for me.

This year, I decided to try a new conference, and registered for the Blend Retreat in May.  Yay!!

I’m excited about this for a number of reasons…

  • it’s held in Park City, Utah, (and I’ve never been to Utah!)
  • some great blogging friends will also be going (fun!!)
  • and I’m thrilled that Drink Chia will be sponsoring me again, so I’ll bring along samples for everyone, yum!

Speaking of sponsors, I’ve added a sponsor tab above as another way to help promote blogs or products that relate to running, fitness, nutrition and healthy living.  I included an opportunity for other bloggers to link up to spread the word about your blog (saw this on Katy’s site and loved the idea!)  Email me for the promo code if you’re interested.

For those brands or blogs that choose a paid spot, I will make a point each month to give them a little introduction and shout out.

More Life Changes

I edited my post yesterday shortly after it was published, so some of you saw our news and some of you didn’t.  Sorry about that! For those of you who missed it, we are moving back to the east coast this summer!  Part of the reason for our trip last month was to scope out the area and help us make the decision.

My husband took a job in NYC, so we’ll be heading up there in about a month to figure out housing, and then moving sometime in July.  We knew our time in Texas would be short term, and our ultimate goal was to end up closer to family, so we’re excited about it.  We’ll be a few hours from both families, and within driving distance from friends in DC, Ithaca, Philly, Lancaster, etc.  But we will certainly be sad to leave our community here!

Okay, I’m off to do one more speed workout this morning before Saturday’s 5k.  Have a great Tuesday!

Is anyone else going to BLEND? Do you get as excited as I do about a solo weekend away?

  1. I am so tempted to go to Blend! It sounds amazing and what better location? Very excited that you have Drink Chia sponsoring you again!

Your move sounds great, too. Being near family I’m sure will be fantastic for you. Plus, the E. coast really is fun (except in winter!) b/c you can get to so many great places w/in an easy drive. Congrats on all of it!

    • Thank you! We’re so excited to be back to the east coast, and in driving distance of everything again. And you should definitely come to Blend! Sounds like there is still space…

  2. As I read your post and saw Fitbloggin I got so excited because I thought you were going to say you were attending this year. So sad that your not since that’s the one I chose to go to. It was a toss up between Blend and Fitbloggin but since Fitbloggin is a little closer to me this year, I opted to go to that one. Plus it’s my first conference and I’ve heard that it’s a great one to go to for a newbie! I’m sure you’ll have a blast at Blend!

    • Yes, I wish I could go and meet you! But you will love Fitblogin- for a first conference, that’s a great one… much more info in terms of blogging tips, etc. I’m excited for you- can’t wait to hear all about your experience!

  3. Blend sounds lime a great conference. I’ve never been to Utah either but it looks amazing. I have yet to make any of the conference dates work for me, kids school schedules/ice skating obligations always seem to conflict.

    • Thanks, Emilia! I didn’t know you spent time in NY! Right now, we’re looking at some towns along the train line right outside of the city, a bit more affordable. But I’m excited to have easy access to the city, and yes, very excited to connect with the running community there!

  4. I’m so behind in the blog conference world- blend does sound fun. I think next year when i ‘m said and done with 50 states i’ll have more time to finally pull the plug and attend.

congrats on the move… say goodbye to ridiculous can’t breathe humidity! (although i realize it still exists in NY, just not nearly as bad)

  5. YAY!! I’m so excited for you to move back east and hopefully get to hang out! And of course I’m so excited that you’re going to BLEND. I cannot wait! Love the sponsor swap. I have to figure all of that out and um make myself a button thingy <– that's what they're called, right? 😉

    • Yay, we’ll be a train ride apart most likely… not bad at all! So glad you’ll be at Blend, too. As for the swap, yep- any logo or pic you want works, just resize it to 125×125.

  6. WOW NYC would be a major change!! What an opportunity, though 🙂

The conference sounds like a great time to get together and share ideas, experiences, and have a good time.
Hope your 5k goes well! Best wishes 🙂

    • Yes, it will be a change… although we did the urban thing when we were first married (Philly) and loved it! We’ll probably live outside the city along a train line, so we can actually afford a house there. 🙂 Best of both- small town community and easy access to the big city.

  7. I wanted to go to Blend retreat but alas, the money was just not in the cards for me this year! But congrats on your sponsor (again!) and I can’t wait to hear all about it. SO MANY congrats on moving back East! Good choice moving up AFTER this winter. Lucky duck. 😉

  8. I am not going to ‘Blend’ but it sounds like a great time and I am jealous you get to go!

I’m sure the move back east will be difficult to leave the community you have found in Texas, but I am also sure that being closer to family will be great for you (and them!)

Oh, and you being on the east coast… I might actually get a chance to meet the famous “Mommy run fast” herself 🙂

  10. I have been to Park City; it is beautiful! You are going to love it and of course it’s great to go and see your blogger friends! Also, the running community (and opps) in NYC are so great, you will forget about TX in no time.

  11. Congratulations on … well, everything! I’m not doing any blogging conferences this year but it’s always on my wish list.

Sounds like your new location will be ideal for all types of family and educational events.
