A race this weekend and new gear

Happy Friday!  Any fun plans?

I’m excited to say for the first time in months that I have a race on the calendar tomorrow!

Well, not really a “race”… but I signed up for a local trail run.  They’re hosting a 5k, 10k and half marathon option and I decided on the 10k.  It’s supposed to be one of the warmest days of the week (even hitting 40 -heat wave!) and there’s no pressure to move very quickly on a trail, right?

I plan to take my time and enjoy the fresh air and running with a bib in a race again.  I realize it could be a lot harder than a typical 10k… I really don’t know much about the course or what to expect, but regardless, it will be a fun adventure.  At least, I hope I can report back some good news.  🙂

And in perfect timing, some new running clothes appeared at my door this week:

Lorna Jane running gear

Lorna Jane contacted me and asked if I’d like to try some of their gear.  I chose a bright pink sports bra (doesn’t every girl need one of those?), a purple tank and running tights.  The sports bra is cute enough (and conservative enough) that I could possibly see myself wearing it sans shirt in the summer.

I love the purple tank- it’s really comfortable, with a built in sports bra…. perfect for running or teaching a spin class.

The tights will get their first trial run at the race tomorrow… they are also a perfect fit, for now.  The expanding belly will outgrow them soon but I needed another pair of tights in my winter running rotation for the future.

Running has been feeling really good this week.  I hope this keeps up for the magical second trimester!

What’s the next race on your calendar?

Do you have running plans for the weekend?

  1. Wow I totally almost did that race this weekend! We are opting to do the Morristown Super hero 4 miler instead. Mostly because the least dressed person gets “the polar bear” award and since it’s warm I think I could pull it off.

I’m glad running has been feeling great for you. I cannot wait to see how you do this weekend. 🙂

  2. Hi Laura! Very cute new gear – I love the purple. Good luck on the trail 10k! It would be really fun! Have a great time. 🙂 As far as running plans…I did a trial 3 miler last night. Easy. My garmin didn’t pick up satellite signals, so I went watchless 🙂 It was so nice to be back. I feel slightly stiff this morning, so I am going to spin and stretch today and going for a short run again this weekend. Ah…the road to recovery. 🙂 I am glad you are racing again!

  3. Hey there, since you haven’t ran a trail run I thought I’d throw my limited (only done two) advice. The trail width may be VERY narrow and there are lots of rocks and twigs around that will probably slow you down a bit. That’s ok and be sure to SLOW down when needed, I’d hate for you to re-injure your ankle. If the trail is tiny passing people can be virtually impossible so be prepared for rubbernecking and congestion. If you have a running shoe with “more grip” it would help as trails can be slick.
Now that I’ve talked about the negatives, trail running is a lot of fun and an amazing nature experience. you truly are in the elements and it’s a great way to start a weekend! Enjoy and can’t wait to hear how you did!

  4. You look beautiful! LJ gear is awesome! I’ve been so impressed with every single piece. Wow 40?? Capris? Race??? We’re due for 8 more inches of snow so I’m thinking about squeezing in a long run today while it’s a balmy 17 degrees then doing speedwork on the mill when the snow starts.
