A day at the beach, workouts + meal planning

Hey! Hope you’re enjoying this long weekend!

We wanted to get to the beach this week so on Friday we decided to brave it with both girls.  We haven’t checked out the local beaches since moving a year ago, and there are several within an hour drive.  It worked out great!  Well, until the ride home when both girls were melting down (mid afternoon) but thankfully they both crashed in the car and we ended our day with a little peace and quiet.  🙂

Baby J did great.  She napped on the way there, ate and napped again on me in the Moby wrap (thankfully it was a cool day and there was a nice breeze by the water).  We got lunch and let L play another hour or so and then everyone napped (mama included) on the way home.

In terms of workouts, I’m slowly picking up my running miles.  This week’s recap:

Sunday: 5.25 mile slow jog (9:30 pace)

Monday: 2 mile walk + push ups and squats

Tuesday: 5 mile run (8:44 ave)

Wednesday: This resistance band workout

Thursday: 4 mile easy run

Friday: 4 mile easy run post-beach

Saturday: Taught 1 hour spin – my first class back! Plus a few push ups and squats.

I’m hoping to get in 6+ miles this morning.  I also realized as I typed this out that I’m due for a rest day! So that will be tomorrow.

 

Here’s the meal plan:

Sunday: Out (Mets game, etc)

Monday: Grilled Chicken Avocado Melts

Chicken Avocado Melts

Tuesday: Grilled Cilantro Lime Shrimp Kebabs + green salad

Wednesday: BBQ Lentils with rice (repeat- never got to this last week!)

Thursday: Grilled steak, roasted sweet potatoes + asparagus

Friday: Black bean veggie quesadillas + guacamole

Saturday:  Take out

  1. We live a half mile from the beach, but are spending this weekend (plus more time) inland. We’re at the base of Mt Rainier, taking care of my father-in-law.

    The other night there was a double rainbow in front of clouds that blocked the view of The Mountain. I caught it unexpectedly on an errand run during precious solo time.

  2. So jealous Laura! Looks lovely…..I am a long way from the beach. You look great! Your meals also look particularly yummy, especially the avocado chicken! I am still a little afraid of lentils since they made me sick when I was a child, but I am working on it….bbq would help haha

  3. I’m a little late to the meal planning party but my post went up this morning so just added my link:)
    I used to live about 15 minutes from the beach when I was growing up in NY. Now I am a few hours from the beach here in Maryland…actually I’ve never even been to any of the Maryland/Delaware beaches because they are too far to go to for just the day. I miss being able to just get up and spend a few hours at the beach!

  4. You look so beautiful! I haven’t been to the beach in awhile but we aren’t too terribly far from the Oregon coast. Oh wait, I lie, we just ran Hood to Coast so I was on the beach. But you know, I’m embarrassed to admit that I never even went down to the actual ocean to say hello. Ha! The Oregon coast is sooo cold! It’s not your typical beach. Our plans this weekend are laying low FINALLY after having plans every weekend and moving the last month!

  5. We are way too far from a real beach (we have the swim beach at the lake which is fine but not the same!!!).
    Glad y’all were able to go to the beach with the girls – sounds like the first of many trips in your future!!!
    And, I love your meal plan with so much grilled food – I pinned several and plan to try them here!!

  6. Awe love that photo, glad you were able to enjoy the beach with the girls and your hubs! There are a few beaches (not ocean) within 30-60 minutes. But I prefer going to my parents cabin in 1000 islands right on the water which is about 3 hour drive… Which is also where I spent labor day weekend!
