8 months- Baby and Mama updates

I think this has been my favorite month so far. Baby J just hit 8 months!  I’m also linking up with Brittany for Munchkin Meals.MM Baby J 8 months

She is now on the move but not officially crawling yet (thankfully! Life will be busy soon.)  She’s scoots around while sitting but is constantly getting on all fours and back up again.  She wants to crawl but hasn’t put all the pieces together yet.  It won’t be long!

She and her sister imitate each others sounds which she LOVES.  She also “said” her first two words this month- “dada” and “uh-oh”… I put “said” in quotes because she can imitate these sounds but I’m not entirely convinced she knows what she’s saying yet.  However, she does use “uh-oh” at the right time (when she drops something) so I think she has put that together.

Either way, it’s unbelievably adorable.

Baby J 7 months sitting

Last month, she was eating just a Tbsp or so at a time but in this last week she has moved up to eating 3 times a day.  We give her food at breakfast, lunch and dinner.  She’s gotten really good at the pincer grasp so most things she can now feed herself (which she LOVES and takes very seriously.)

Typical foods include egg yolk and banana at breakfast, avocado and sweet potato at lunch, and salmon or lentils with green beans or peas at dinner.  She nurses 4-5 times a day as well.

Some recent combos:

MM yogurt + berriesFull fat yogurt + chopped berries for breakfast

MM sweet potato, avocado and broccoliBites of broccoli, sweet potato and avocado for lunch (and yanking off her bib!)

MM rice pasta with sauceBrown rice pasta + tomato sauce for dinner (we tried this once so far as I’m not doing many grains yet but she gobbled it up!)

We have now adjusted to a two nap schedule.  It’s nice having more predictability to our day.  She naps around 9:30 or 10 for about two hours, and again at 2pm for anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.  Bedtime is still 7pm and most nights she sleeps through until 7am.  However, the last two weeks we’ve had our fair share of rough nights when she was sick and having trouble breathing. She often finished the night sleeping in her carseat to be upright- whatever works, right? But  I think we’ve finally turned a corner.

You all know I was juggling too much the last few weeks (that crazy lack of sleep was NOT helping!) but I feel much better this week.  I’m now tapering for Boston and honestly thrilled about it.  I’m ready to cut back the distance running this summer and have fun with running again. I’m looking forward to more track workouts, too, which were missing this winter.

As for the whole body after baby question, I’m still at about 5 pounds off my pre-baby weight.  This seems to be what my body does while breastfeeding.  I’d like to feel completely back to normal but it’s not too far off.  I’m still hoping to hit one year with her and then I have a few trips this summer that will make it most convenient if she is officially weaned!

Do you have a favorite baby age?

How often do you mix up your workout routine?

  1. Oh babies! I think the favorite age I have is actually now and that is around 2….she is so crazy and talking more and more with actual sentences!

I try to mix up training, but find I am more consistent if I know what I am doing – so running the same road and hitting different marks is what I do!

  2. I love babies 6 to 12 months is so fun! Although of course every stage has it fun moments and of course challenges. Summer is now walking, although I am trying to encourage crawling as much as possible still. It has been fun having her moving because she has been so eager to move! I love that baby J is saying uh oh – too cute!

  3. I love the pic of her diving into her food. If only we could all get into our food like that! I remember 8 months being a lot of fun. But then again every month at that age was fun. There was always something new!

  4. Love those pictures! She is too cute! I am glad to hear you are feeling better this week.
Matilda’s meals looked ALMOST identical to J’s! In fact, up until just a few weeks ago I was still giving her the egg yolk/banana for breakfast. I have recently transitioned to making her muffins with similiar ingredients.

  5. I loved 8 months. She is adorable. The pictures of her eating brings so many memories of my kids to mind. The bowl she has that keeps the food from slipping is really cool, and whole milk yogurt? gah! it’s so creamy and good… love Stoneyfield!

  6. I love 8 months! I think my favorite age is between 8-12 months because of their budding personalities and all of the things they are learning to do. Mirella loves to feed herselef, in fact if we feed her with a spoon (other than yogurt or oatmeal), she usually spits it out and then picks it up to put in her mouth herself!

  8. She is just so sweet–love the pictures of her in the high chair figuring food out. And isn’t the relationships between siblings the best? I can remember my daughter idolizing my son when she was a baby. Nothing better.

I gave Madison her first egg yolk yesterday and today and she loves it.

  10. I mean, she’s just the cutest! I can’t believe she’s 8 months already. So glad that she (and you!) are doing well after the rough week of sleep. I love this age too, around 7 months through 18 months. So much fun. And hooray for taper! I bet that feels really good right now!
