21 weeks pregnant Update

Did you notice two weeks ago was a 20 week update and today is 21? At our ultrasound we found that our due date may be 5 days off, so I’m likely 21.5 weeks pregnant today rather than 22.  Silly details maybe, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself.  🙂

Yesterday I shared my “sisters” bump photo from her baby shower this weekend.  I don’t think we took a solo picture of me in normal clothes this week, so here’s the bump in running gear:

 21 week run

I felt great this week, although the travel did wipe me out more than it would have previously.  But after a nap yesterday, I’m feeling back on track.

Workouts are still feeling good, although my running pace keeps slipping away.  I think I need to leave the watch at home.  I’m only using it for curiosity – not trying to hit any particular pace, but it is sometimes discouraging how hard a 9 or 10 minute mile can feel! And it takes me a good two miles until I feel like I’m warmed up and the paces come more easily.

Other details from this week:

How far along: 21.5 weeks

Total weight gain: up 9-10 lbs

Maternity clothes: Still a mix of belly bands and maternity. And lots of yoga pants!

Sleep: Mostly good.  The only downside is when my daughter gets up to pee and then I have trouble falling back to sleep.

Miss anything: Sleeping on my stomach.  But overall, there’s not much that I miss right now.

Movement: Yes! Not as crazy as it was with my daughter.  I hope that means this one will be a bit more laid back.  🙂

Food cravings: Pretty normal right now.  I’m starting to crave chocolate again, but am trying to make good choices.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Popcorn or crackers don’t appeal to me at all right now.

Have you started to show yet: Yes! Some shirts show off the bump more than others.

Gender: If you missed it, looks like we’re going to be surprised.  🙂

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy.  But if I’m sleep deprived, very emotional!

Looking forward to:  Springtime. Getting the nursery organized. Sorting the tiny baby clothes.

How long does it take you to feel warmed up in a run?

How was your weekend?

  1. I hate when they move that due date around! But not like it matters anyway because that’s never the real date! I CRAVE carbs at all times so that cracker aversion is crazy (in my eyes!). Doesn’t matter how fast or slow your miles are you are basically running them with a baby bjorn and baby strapped to you!

  2. I think you are still doing pretty darn well! I am seriously really enjoying learning about your progress as you go through. It is like a gradual lesson in pregnant and what to expect 🙂 I often find I take 2-3 miles to warm up, especially when I am sore or tired. Hope you have a wonderful day!

  3. It usually takes me about 2-3 miles to feel like I’m hitting my stride! I would say leave the watch at home…you’re doing awesome! I just carried my phone when I was pregnant…I missed my watch but I knew that if I saw the pace I would want to push myself too much!

  4. I can relate to the watch thing. When I was pregnant I only managed to keep running for three months BUT it was so discouraging to see 9 min miles and feeling how hard that pace was!! Leave it home and just be happy you can run. You look great and before you know it, you’ll be doing stroller runs 🙂

  5. Your bump is really starting to pop! So cute. I felt the same way as you seeing my pace slip while running.

Evan was super chill in utero and he has continued the trend. Totally unlike my daughter (who has also continued the trend for the past 5 years, lol). So fingers crossed for you 🙂

Also – I know you don’t necessarily want to be surprised, but it really is fun finding out at the birth!

  6. It normally takes me about 2-3 miles to get “warmed up” during a run. I honestly can relate to this via injury wise. When I’m coming back from an injury I can never look at my watch, otherwise I get frustrated.

  7. Can I come help with the baby clothes sorting? So cute and sweet…

Well, if it makes you feel any better, it takes my non-pregnant body forever and a day to warm up anymore. The older I get the longer it takes!

Glad you continue to feel so good.

  8. Your baby bump is so cute!! I just recently found out I was pregnant a week ago and it was a big surprise. I am 9 weeks (9 weeks 3 days). The running has definitely been a challenge. I am scared for the Boston marathon, but hoping I won’t have the morning sickness then. The nausea has been the hardest for me.

  9. I think it’s AMAZING you’re still running 9-10mi! I know it’s so discouraging sometimes, but you’re doing awesome. And you look great!

I always go with later due date estimates, too. My doctor tried to convince me my due date was a few days earlier than we thought it was at first, but I’d much rather stick with the later date.

  10. So much fun watching you and your pregnancy. I’m impressed you are still running. If I have a second one, I’ll have to try and run beyond the 1st trimester. That’s where I gave up with my only one. It takes a mile to a mile and a half to feel warmed up. It’s been so long since I was running regularly; let’s see if/when I get back to running 1-1.5 miles is still the magical distance to getting warmed up.

  11. makes me feel better to know a speedy runner like you is having to leave her watch at home 🙂 i thought that only happened to mortals like me!

  12. You look great! I remember one of the first things I did after giving birth to both kids was SLEEP ON MY STOMACH! Haha! Enjoy the second half of your pregnancy! I think it’s awesome that you are still running strong.

  13. I love your updates, nice to follow along with:) You are seriously inspiring.

It takes me longer than it used to to warm up these days, maybe it’s being semi-injured, maybe it’s because I’m sick of the winter, and maybe…well I don’t know. It used to take me 1/2 mile -2 miles max to warm up. These days it’s no less than 3 miles to feel ‘warmed up’ during a run.

  14. It has been taking me forever to warm up for a run, which is funny b/c I still feel ick and can only run 2-3 miles, so by time I warm up, i’m done and over it. Hoping 2nd tri is better for running!
