20 Weeks Bump Update

How am I halfway already?!

Suddenly this pregnancy is flying by.  It’s starting to sink in that we will have another little member of our family in 4+ months!  We’ll find out on Wednesday if it’s a boy or girl, assuming the baby cooperates.  I’m so curious to see if we’re all right with our boy prediction.  Even our midwife thinks it’s a boy because of the lower heart rate!

My belly popped a lot in the last two weeks.  Here’s 20 weeks:

And a better belly view:

 20 weeks bump

I mentioned in my workout recap that I ran 10 miles on Saturday.  I don’t know how many more double digit runs I’ll aim for, but I ran a 10 mile race at 20 weeks with L and was determined to hit the same number.  🙂  Although with L, I was barely showing at 20 weeks and ran the race with an 8:30 average pace.  I’m not sure how I managed that, as I was barely breaking 10 minute miles on Saturday!  Just for fun, here’s a flashback to that race, 4.5 years ago and my 20 week weekly shot:

20 weeks first pregnancy

Pretty big difference in pregnancy number 2 for me! I was hardly showing until 24-25 weeks the first time.  But I also carry low, and have a long torso so there was plenty of space for the baby to hide.  This time, I think my body just knows what to do and wants to keep popping out!

Gosh I look so young … although I was almost 30! I think I’ve finally aged a bit, in a good way.  I got so tired of people thinking I was much younger than I was!

So what’s going on at 20 weeks?

How far along: 20 weeks

Total weight gain: up 8 lbs

Maternity clothes: I’m wearing comfy clothes and have one pair of maternity pants that I started to wear.  The others are still a bit too big. I’m looking forward to stretchy, flowy skirts in the spring and summer!

Sleep: Mostly good.  I’m squeezing in a short nap most days and still have insomnia around 4 or 5am a few times a week.

Miss anything: Running faster paces! But most of the time, I’m enjoying the opportunity to run when I feel like it, and at whatever pace feels good.

Movement: Yes! And now hubs and my daughter are able to feel it, too.

Food cravings: Still loving bagels and cream cheese- I try to limit it to once or twice a week.  🙂  I’m also loving yogurt and granola, egg sandwiches, and snatching bites of Annie’s mac and cheese which I’ve started making about once a week for L since she LOVES it.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Popcorn, which I used to love, makes me want to puke.  So does anything bland and dry- crackers, rice cakes, etc.

Have you started to show yet: Yes! It’s still sometimes questionable depending on the outfit and all the winter layers, but as we switch into spring clothes, it will be very obvious.

Gender: Wednesday!! Can’t wait!

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: Whew, the emotions are hitting me more than I remember with L.  Just silly things that make me tear up.  But overall, I’ve been in a really great mood and enjoying this pregnancy.

Looking forward to:  The gender news!

Do you look younger or older than your age?

Any final guesses on gender before we find out? 🙂

  1. Yay! So exciting! Firstly, I have what may be a dumb question….your ring doesnt fit after a while?! Sorry I am completely naive when it comes to pregnancy haha! Thats awesome you are running faster….you must be in that sweet spot where they say your hormones are off the charts! I would be so tempted to run harder….that will be a challenge for me when I eventually get there!

You look great, and I loved reading about your progress! I am going to guess a boy 🙂

    • Haha, not a dumb question at all! Actually, I should probably get rid of that question because I never had an issue with L. But some women have swelling in their hands or feet and can’t wear their ring toward the end.

  2. I always get told I look younger than I am. I’m finally at the age that I am starting to appreciate it— mom said that would finally happen 😉

I can’t believe you are 20 weeks already! I feel like it’s flying by for you, too. Of course, I’m almost 32 weeks pregnant, which boggles my mind. How does it go by so quickly the second time?!

Can’t wait to hear the baby’s sex- such an exciting moment!

    • Yes, my mom always said that, too. She also looks really young for her age. It is nice to finally be at the age where it’s a good thing!

Seriously- the second one goes so much faster!

  3. You look awesome, Laura! Love that skirt too — I had a navy one just like it when I was pregnant last time and I LIVED in it — so comfy!

I always think I look older than my age, but I’ve had people assume I’m younger (which as I get older sounds sweeter and sweeter — haha!)

I can’t wait to hear if it’s a boy or a girl — hopefully your little babe cooperates 🙂

  4. You’re doing awesome and you look awesome too!! I’m so excited for you to find out what the baby is!!!! So fun!!! I feel like I look younger than I am….then again I don’t really feel like I’m 35. There are days though when I feel like I look MUCH older!!

    • I have no idea… it usually takes a lot longer to show with your first pregnancy, but I think when you’re tall, it can take even longer because the baby stretches up before pushing out!

  5. You look fabulous, mama! Can’t wait to hear whether you’re thinking pink again or rockin’ blue this time around.

People often think I’m younger than I am, although I think that time frame is coming to a close. Too many grays when I put my hair into a ponytail. Yikes!

  6. You look so great. I’m very excited to hear the gender!! I’m going to go with boy, too, simply b/c I think a mom’s instinct is usually right.

An aversion to popcorn is a tragedy!! ; )

  7. You look amazing!! Sadly, I used to look WAY younger than my age (on my honeymoon, when I was 25, the flight attendant asked me if I was old enough to sit in the exit row … and you have to be 15!), but now I think I look exactly my age. My last job aged me! I like following along with your journey!

  8. You look great! I can’t wait to hear what you’re having! My guess is boy.

I agree – second pregnancies go by much more quickly!

  9. I look younger than I am, I just say I am aging gracefully 😉 It is frustrating sometimes though because I am a female working in a male dominated field so sometimes looking younger makes it even harder for me.

    I’m guessing baby boy!

  10. You look awesome!!! That dress is super cute on you!
I used to look younger than my age – now those days are long gone!!!

  11. So funny–When I was pregnant, I used to crave bagel and cream cheese too!! That and a decaf Vanilla Latte (I usually drink black coffee) SO glad everything is going well, can’t wait to hear what your having!!

  12. You look great!!! I think it is awesome that you keep up your running during the pregnancy! I did with both of my girls too….although at that time I was just running for the love of running. I didn’t do races and didn’t own a GPS watch so I have no idea what pace I ran…but I have a feeling it wasn’t that speedy.
I love bagels…and I am nor pregnant so I don’t have that excuse!
I am going to say boy!

  13. Love your outfit! And you’re looking so cute with your little bump. I always heard that you show more quickly with each pregnancy. Not sure if it’s entirely valid but it’s also been my experience.

I bet your daughter is excited to feel that there’s a little baby in your belly. 🙂

  14. First off, I adore that skirt!! Secondly, you look amazing! I showed a lot earlier the 2nd time, too. I have a similar build to you and I was able to wear regular clothes past 20 weeks with my first pregnancy, but not my second!

  16. Keeping this in mind, they say how it works is chinese culture to protect those around
you trying to choose between them, I walked and was able
to regulate the nervous system. In Chinese medicine, we are
going to miraculously help you. Have you considered seeing
an acupuncturist in Japan. Needling the acupoints in the context
of the animal if not delivered properly, you will go away
    in days or weeks.
