16 Weeks Pregnant

Wow.  The first trimester crawled by… probably because after the miscarriage, I was very nervous about hitting each week and wondered if I’d make it to 12.  But suddenly, four more weeks are gone! I even missed the 15 week update thinking I had another week… oops!

So let’s catch up.

One of the BEST things right now is I am feeling the baby move every day.  This is my favorite part of pregnancy! It actually started around week 13 off and on, and I spent one night googling, how early can you feel a baby move? With L, I didn’t feel anything until 20 weeks.

Running has been fantastic lately, other than the bladder.  And other than the weather!  The belly has definitely had a growth spurt.  Within a matter of days I went from mostly bloated-looking to hey, is that a bump?

15.5 week belly

How far along: 16 weeks

Total weight gain: up 4-5 lbs

Maternity clothes: I’m in the awkward between phase where maternity pants are too big but my pants don’t button, so I’m using belly bands most days.

Sleep: Great! I’m even staying up until 10 or 10:30 these days.

Miss anything: Not really.

Movement: Yes! Not quite strong enough for others to feel yet.

Food cravings: I’ve had a bit of a sweet tooth this week… blaming it on a pregnancy craving.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Finally, no.

Have you started to show yet: I think it’s getting more obvious now!

Gender: L still thinks it’s a boy. I agree.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!

Looking forward to:  The rest of the family feeling the baby kicks and movements.

I also got a fantastic bag this week that is designed as a gym bag, but I’m eyeing up as a gym/diaper bag! It’s from Apera, a new to me company:

Apera bag

For either use, they have antimicrobial properties, vented pockets and wipeable linings.  There are several different styles, but I love the sling because it doesn’t necessarily “look” like a gym bag.

And the pockets are amazing… I couldn’t get over how many pockets were inside, outside and on both sides in and out.  It holds a lot… I stuffed L’s bee pillow in the center.

And even special side pockets for sneakers:

It’s kind of silly how excited I am to add the first baby thing for this new little one. (Also, Apera is hosting a giveaway here and has 40% off most bags this week.)

Moms and pregnant friends, how early did you first feel the baby move?

Non pregnant friends, have you ever felt baby kicks from the outside?

  1. 16 weeks is a wonderful milestone and hooray for feeling better!! I’m so happy for you :)

I felt movement earlier with this pregnancy, too. I definitely believe knowing what it feels like lends itself to feeling baby earlier.

Will y’all find out what you are having? If so, you’ll know so soon!

    I’m with you… I think you’re having a BOY!

  2. I would say with the second I felt movements much earlier than with the first! I remember when I felt my first one kick…I was on the beach in Miami. My friend who I was visiting thought I was nuts because I just started that half laugh half cry!! What an exciting time!!!

  3. The bump is super cute! I have a question: what is a belly band? Also, I didn’t realize that the peeing thing was an issue so early on! That bag looks awesome. I totally need something like that, as I carry my gym stuff in a reusable shopping bag!

  4. Oh you’re so darned cute! You look so happy – congrats on your milestone!

I loved second trimester with my daughter, feeling her movements at 15 weeks. It happened in the middle of the night– my eyes flew open, and I nearly bolted upright, so energized and happy, but stayed still, waiting for it to happen again. I waited for a loonnng time that night, lol. That was almost 20 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks for the reminder of that sweet moment. :)

  5. Great news! I’m so glad you’ve finally reached that blissful pregnant stage – enjoy it!! I started feeling the twins move early, like 13 weeks, but I think that was because there was two of them :-)
I’m loving that bag but if I buy one more I may have to admit I have a problem.

  6. I know the nervous feeling those first months–I have so much empathy. It’s great to hear you talk about the baby moving. That is the best feeling (I can still remember!) Once a mother always a mother– six years later, I still feel the “let down” feeling when someone talks about feeding their baby– does this happen to anyone else?

  7. Ooh, I think I felt the baby kick sometime around 18-20 weeks. It’s hard to recall, because all I remember is that my son was super super active the last month, to the point that at times I wouldn’t get much sleep at all!

You are looking great for 16 weeks! I remember at 16 weeks, I had moved past the belly bands and was fully in maternity pants. And those are tough to find when you’re 4’11”!

Love the updates, keep sharing with us!

  8. First of all, you look FANTASTIC. :) Secondly, that bag is freaking AWESOME. I think I need that in my life. I’m sure my hubby would disagree, ha ha. I’ve felt all of my friends bellies while they were pregnant (not as creepy as that sounds I promise) and got to feel their babies kicking and moving around. One of my friends had such an active little guy that we’d see his feet stick out on a regular basis, it was amazing.

  9. you look great! and what a cute bag!

with my first baby, i felt her move around 15/16 weeks. it was just a little poke, but i remember it so clearly (was crossing 66th street on broadway) with number two, i swear it was like 11/12 weeks. same little poke.

so glad you’ve reached the “sweet spot” of pregnancy – now you can really enjoy yourself 😉

  10. I am loving your updates! I’m pregnant with my first and we aren’t that far apart (I’m 16 weeks on Friday) so it’s fun to compare notes. :) I haven’t ran much since about 4 weeks, but am keeping up hot yoga (with doc permission, of course!) and swimming and am getting ready to start some half marathon “training” once all this snow melts. I’m so excited to start feeling the baby move!

  11. You do not even look pregnant! I am shocked your clothes would even be tight, you skinny minny. You look amazing.

And I am definitely going to check out that bag! Let us know how it works out after a week or two of use. Curious if it is big enough for an all purpose gym bag and/or diaper bag. At the stage we are in now, I am hauling around toys in our diaper bag…so I need room for sure. But I like the idea of a bag that could go cross-body and/or used later as a gym bag.
