As L gets older, it is more fun to get excited about holidays and themes throughout the year. We don’t make a huge deal out of Halloween, but we will walk around our neighborhood and collect more goodies than we need. (She will let you know, she’s not Elmo- she’s Elmo’s mom):
With Halloween around the corner, I’ve been collecting food ideas to make it more fun. We’ll have our fair share of sugar, so most of these are ideas for creating fun with the rest of the meal or healthier afternoon snacks.
I can handle the simple ideas! We had string cheese ghosts with our lunch yesterday. L doesn’t even know what ghosts are, but we saw these in a magazine and she was excited that she could help make these:
We’re also getting good use out of our pumpkin cookie cutter. We have pureed carrot soup on the menu plan for tonight, and we’ll have pumpkin-shaped cheese quesadillas on the side. Pumpkin-cut sandwiches, french toast, pancakes…

I love that your daughter is “Elmo’s mom”. That is super cute. Very creative and healthy food ideas too. I wished that I was that creative!

I don’t think we have any books with pics of Elmo’s mom… I’m sure she’s out there somewhere. So L assumed this big Elmo must be the mama.

I love the ideas! I’m still trying to find costumes for my kiddos. They both have a mind if their own. L looks adorable as Elmo’s mom!

Angela @ Happy Fit Mama recently posted..Belly Warming Food
It took us awhile, too. L kept changing her mind, and I (briefly) considered making something, but we finally settled on this mama Elmo.

Laura recently posted..16 Fun Halloween Food Ideas
Isn’t she adorable?!?
Thanks for sharing. These are great ideas. My only Halloween tradition is to make chili on Halloween (something my mom did) and try not to eat toooooo much chocolate.
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers recently posted..The Veggies I Ate Wednesday
Chili for Halloween is a good idea… it’s a great fall dish, and filling enough to limit the extra candy temptation, hopefully!
Laura recently posted..16 Fun Halloween Food Ideas
Such cute ideas – I actually shared a pin of the Peanut Butter Treat Ghosts from Chocolate Covered Katie today too!! I like to make holiday themed foods like this when I’m hosting a party, but we’re not doing that this year. Still might be fun to bake something and bring it to work to share though!
Heather @ Better With Veggies recently posted..Halloween Treats + Wicked Spicy Sausage Tacos {Recipe}
Great minds, Heather.
I agree- a party is more fun. We’ll do a few of the easier ones. I love those owl cupcakes, but don’t think I’ll go to all the work this year!

Loving the cheese stick ghosts too!

OK I totally love the fact that L is Elmo’s Mom. That is awesome on so many levels. My husband is actually taking care of the boys’ costumes this year which is kind of amusing. I love all of these ideas! I don’t actually do special things like this for the holiday but love the idea of it. The ghostly pizza and mummy dogs are amazing. Maybe I will do those

Christine @ Love, Life, Surf recently posted..Blogger’s Guilt
I like the idea of it too, and like you, we’ll see how many I actually follow through on.
Love that your husband is on costume duty!
Laura recently posted..16 Fun Halloween Food Ideas
These are great ideas! I love the string cheese idea; I’ll have to do that for Keenan. He is slowly figuring out what Halloween is about, as we have been practicing saying “Trick-or-treat” and carrying his bucket with “pretend” candy in it. It has been fun and I look forward to taking him to a few houses in our neighborhood on Halloween.

Elmo’s mommy! Too cute! Such great ideas! The extent of my Halloween food is mummy dogs (hot dog wrapped in crescent roll strips). To be fair I make a pumpkin bunt cake when we have a party, which is nit this year due to a certain marathon. : )

Cute ideas. My favorite part was that L is going to be Elmo’s mom. Adorable!
Mandy recently posted..Columbus Marathon Recap
Hey, that’s a good idea if I want to dress the kid in “boy” costumes. This year she gets fluffy and pink, though. I got pumpkin pancake mix at Trader Joes and I think I might need a pumpkin cookie cutter to make it even more awesome.
Sarah S recently posted..The official diagnosis
So cute! Seriously, how could you ever pick which one’s to make? The owl cupcakes… the mummy hotdogs… that awesome purple monster cup holder…and that carrot face. Awesome ideas. Thanks!
