13 weeks pregnant update

Hope you all had a great weekend! We met our “Intention” of a monthly date night for January and got out Saturday for Thai food and a movie.  We saw Philomena- I was pretty sure I would enjoy it, but was glad that he found it really interesting as well.  And of course, with pregnancy hormones, the tears were flowing!

Somehow two weeks have already passed and it’s time for another pregnancy update.  Overall, I am feeling better every day.  I made the mistake of staying up til 11pm a few times last week, which I then paid for, but if I’m smart and get to bed in good time, my energy is definitely picking up.

Here are the details:

How far along: 13 weeks

Total weight gain: up 1-2 lbs

Maternity clothes: Not yet but I am sticking to the pants that have some “give”- no more jeans for me.

Sleep: This past week was rough, but that was mostly my fault.  And I find if I have a late night snack or big dinner, I wake up uncomfortable in the middle of the night.

Miss anything: I miss effortless running but am happy I can get back out there.

Movement: Not yet. Hopefully in a few weeks!

Food cravings: Now I’m transitioning from protein to carbs.  I actually bought cereal this week, which we rarely have in the house and am loving it right now.  🙂

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not everything is appealing but I can’t necessarily predict what it will be that turns my stomach.

Have you started to show yet: I feel like my belly popped the week I found out I was pregnant- but hasn’t changed much since then.

Gender: L thinks it’s a boy.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: Definitely happy.  And a little extra sensitive at times.  🙂

Looking forward to: Feeling more normal in the 2nd trimester and soon feeling movement.

Exercise

I gave an exercise update on Friday in running through the first trimester, and my weekly workout recap yesterday.  I’m starting to feel a bit more normal and more motivated to be active.

One of my goals is to get back to the pool soon… but for some reason, I always struggle to get myself in the water.  Once I’m in I love it, but I don’t like all the gear required, and the cold water when you first jump in.  Maybe by putting my goal out there, I’ll make it happen before the 15 week update.

Do you like to swim?

Have you seen any good movies recently?

  1. I love to swim, I’m just terrible at anything beyond splashing around for a fun time 🙂

You look marvelous! I’m still on the protein train myself. This baby girl wants MEAT. It’s so crazy to me because usually I’m not that into it- haha. Pregnancy is a crazy time. Hope you get to feeling like yourself soon. It has to be around the corner!

PS- I’m voting boy for you!

  2. i do like to swim, but don’t do it nearly enough. i’m thinking these last few months of pregnancy, it would be really great to get some swim workouts in! itz hard when itz so cold outside, but that won’t last forever!

  3. I’ve heard Philomena is fantastic! I really want to see it. Looks like a very sweet film, which most of the big Oscar contenders aren’t.

I’ve seen quite a few of the Oscar movies so far, like American Hustle, Gravity, Wolf of Wall Street, and Her. I think Gravity has been my favorite so far!

  4. Ohhh how exciting! You look great right now! I am always loving cereal, so I wonder what my cravings will eventually be! I heard swimming is great when pregnant, you have extra buoyancy so may find it easier!

I hope that I can continue to run, although I will have to check my ego at the door as you cant keep up the intensity or mileage from what I hear? Next time I have an effortless mile (who knows when that will be with my slow comeback right now), I will dedicate it to you 🙂

  6. glad you are feeling good!! you’re looking amazing!
and we just to swim all the time, our parents could never get us out of the water, but now as adults we are barely in the water, weird. not sure why, we still like to swim in a pool but never really do.

  7. I hate swimming for exercise – I pretty much just like the water to cool off when I’m laying out and even then it has to be really hot!!!
Glad you are feeling pretty good – hopefully in another week or so you will be feeling great!!!
I haven’t seen any recent movies at the theater but we have watched a few DVDs lately – yesterday I watched Men of Honor – love that one!!

  9. I love to swim but have all the issues you do…well, maybe except for the gear. It’s especially hard in the winter to get in the water – brrrr. Once I get in and get in the grove of the laps – I love it.

  10. I am exactly the same way about getting in the pool, Laura, but I’ve been LOVING it now that I finally got myself to commit to it again. I snuck in 20 minutes of laps after my run the other day because I was dying to get some swimming in. Great exercise when you’re pregnant, too – go for it!

  11. I find it so inspiring when people run during their pregnancy, so kudos to you! I’m not the best swimmer, but I love it. I’m with you on not being a fan of the cold water at first. Not going to lie–that’s the main reason why I don’t swim half as much as I wish I did.

  13. I love to swim also, but I’m like you-I have a hard time getting myself into the pool area. My Y’s pool is SUPER busy with swim team, lessons, etc so that’s another frustrating reason. On another note when I was in junior/high school I was a very active swimmer-I was on a swim team and also water ballet (now know as synchronized swimming). Everyone laughs when I tell them this, but it was an awesome experience!

  14. You look fabulous! We are trying to get pregnant too, so I’m sure I’ll be checking in regularly to watch your progress.

  15. You look great, Laura! SO glad you’re feeling well too. (and now I totally want cereal thanks to your craving haha).

Swimming is great during pregnancy but it’s been hard for me to make it to the pool more than once a week this time around. It’s just such a production! Pack change of clothes, drive to the gym, stow clothes in a locker, wait for a lane to open, swim, get out soaking wet, dry off, get changed, go home to shower. Being able to run right out your door is so much more convenient!

  16. I felt (feel) the same exact way about swimming. I had every intention of swimming MORE while pregnant, but it is just soooo easy to lace up and run.

You are doing amazing and looking great too!

  17. I am not a fan of the water. I usually only go in when it’s super hot outside and I want to cool off;) As far as movies, we really liked Gravity and the Secret Life of Walter Mitty:)

  18. Oh my gosh!! I am late to hear the news. Congrats to you! I am so very happy you are expecting, Laura. I know you have waited and prayed for this. You are already glowing 🙂 No intervals — you have a great excuse!
